nice article and very motivating.....i need to loose 5 kgs weight....and i go for walk- 2 miles in the morning....can u tell me is that enought or i need to do some more excersice too,,,,,

fd, 5 kgs = 5*2.2= 11 lbs * 3500 = 38500 calories. You need to burn this many calories to lose 5 Kgs of weight.

By walking briskly 2 miles you will burn anywhere between 150 to 200 cal. And if you spread that out then it will easily take years before you lose 5 KGS. What you need to do for you to reach your target is to include more cardio excersises. Like instead of walking, try running for 2 miles, take stairs instead of elevators, try skipping at home etc..anything that gets your heart going is good for you.

And another way to effectively reduce weight is to reduce your portion sizes in what you eat everyday. If you eat 3 idlis for breakfast, eat only 2. Instead of full fat milk, switch to 2 , if you eat rice 2 times a day then eat only once. Small changes where you don´ t feel like you are depriving yourself of food, but yet effective in controlling your diet.

Also remember that if you begin to starve yourself to lose weight, then you metabolism slows down going into the famine mode where your body thinks that there is going to be no food available anymore and hence conserving whatever you eat. Slow metabolism means slower weight loss and once you start to eat normally again, you tend to keep on the pounds for punishing your body earlier. So, its very imp to keep your body replenished of all nutrients. Eat healthy and eat often and eat smaller meals. Keep your body happy and it will keep you happy in return. Stay fit and healthy. Aarti, start with any cardio equipment and ask for you gym personnel to walk you through various equipment if you are not familiar with any. Try to do the ones that are not that hard on you knees. Usually, running on the treadmill, the stair climber machines are old and hence are quite hard on your knees. Try to do the cross-training machines which target most imp muscles in your body(the ones that you mentioned). Don' t go on forever, but start with 20 mints. Once you are comfortable with what you are doing then switch gears by increasing the frequency, resistance etc...Don' t keep doing the same machine but switch to different machines. Good luck.

Thanks for ur guidance and motivation and taking ur precious time in replying to my query. I m abroad and cannot access to gym here...as i have kid to take care off....and as u suggested i m taking stairs...,we travel by public transport, so have to walk a lot here. And , i m taking all fat free or low caloried dairy food, juices and stuff.....i lost 1 kg since my attempt to loose weight in last month. But now i feel my weight is stangnant and not reducing....i think i need to control my diet.

Do u think, if i try General motor diet schedule, it will work ....? and how much times skipping, will help me reduce 200 calories....I do kapalbhati, and stecking and floor excersice daily for 20 min....

Can u guide me? thanks again

Yeah what u say i have come across and i too want to steadily reduce with long term goals in mind...where i m fit and energetic.

More over i m in switzerland, and my place is very remote....and i checked they dont have any facility for creche here too.....Swiss life is way too diffrent from US. So i want to do something at home......anyways...thanks for ur tips.....

If you are in the US then most of the gyms out here now have a baby care center where your kid could play while you workout. This fecility is especially meant for stay at home moms who can´ t leave their baby at the sitter. This is a free service provided by most gyms that the members could avail. There is no reason for you say anymore that i couldn´ t go to a gym since i have a baby.

Now, when ppl generally try to lose weight, they do so rapidly in the beginning say 3 or 4 months, but reach a plateau after this time. That is b´ cos your body got used to your workout schedule or your diet schedule. This is the reason why you need to mix and change your workout regimen every once in a while. Either increase the frequence, resistance or duration of your workout. Also change from walking to running, running to cycling, cycling to cross-training etc...this way you keep your body guessing and let it burn more calories in the process. The only thing i suggest as far as your diet is concerned is stick to a change that you could accomodate for your life. Don´ t go up and down too much b´ cos it will affect your health adversely in the long run.

Being physically active is the most imp thing in one´ s life, whether you are single, double or triple in family size it doesn´ t matter.
