Eating Problems:doesn't hold her bottle
2003-06-03
Name: Ruchi

I have a 14 months daughter, she doesnt hold her bottle, as she is not a good eater nor she likes to drink lot of milk , so in order to have some milk i used to hold her in my lap and then try to sing some ryhmes to her so that she could have some milk , but now she is spoilt by that , now if i try to lt her hold her own bottle and feed herself she starts playing with the bottle and starts spilling the milk ,Its a month now that I have trying to teach her , as she is very weak , she is sick more than half a month in order to just let her have some milk I have to hold the bottle myself.(could you also let me know what is right age to start with the sippy cup). My daughter can have water from the sippy cup , but she doesnt have milk from it , I tried couple of times to give milk in the sippy cup but she didnt have her milk and threw the cup.

hi ruchi
if u r working then u can try feeding with spoon in the morning and evening. afternoon let her eat some solid food, which the care takers can feed, if u ignore her spitting of food for few days she will automatically start eating solid food(not pureed),bcoz she will come to know that all these things will end up in hunger. try to give apple, banana etc if she is not eating at all
but she has to chew and eat then it will be good for her health as well as teeth.
all the best

hey ruchi
first of all stop feeding thru bottle, try to feed with the help of spoon, tell her some stories so that she will be engaged in listening to u. and start feeding some home made soft food to her, she may enjoy the tickling taste. sippy cup can start any time once they know how to get the sip, now u can use sippy cup for water, milk, juices etc.
all the best

Thanks Seema for advise,I really appreciate it . Hey ! I already started giving home made food, from a long time now , as she is 14 months I started with Pureed food since she was 8 months . Initially she did not like at all , but gradually since 2 months she is ok with home made food that I have to still puree , I tried not to puree the food , so tried giving her chunky food though ltlle mashed by spoon , but she chokes and vomits everything .But when i give her cookies , and other finger food she does have that , she has lot of front teeth too, but i give her khichdi which is not pureed , she chokes and vomits .Now about giving her milk with spoon as i am a working woman (she goes to a day care) its not possible to feed her by spoon during day time. I can try only in evenings.
