Feeding:feeding

I have 3 months old baby and I have been doing breast feeding and now for the past so many days I am trying to introduce formula. My baby is not picking bottle. As soon as I put bottle in his mouth he does not suck but keeps the nipple in his mouth. 2 or 3 times he tried to suck but he vomitted out the formula. If anyone can help me regarding introducing formula I would appreciate it.

Hi,
Try different bottles. My daughter had same problem. I tried lot of different kind of bottles. Finally Gerber's new dome shaped nipple bottle worked for her, since it feels lot like a breast.

hi kavita,

it is a big process - to introduce bottle to babies. first mix breast milk and formula in 3:1 ratio and give him. then gradually decrease breastmilk amt and increase formula. it may take some days. but i think this is the best way to introduce formula.

another way is wait until he is very hungry. then give bottle, do use avent cos the nipple is like that of breast nipple, also switching from breast to bottle and viceversa will not be a problem

hope this helps. all the best

hi ! kavita, what u can do is give a little - very little quantity at a time and burp the baby and see if she/he wants more. and yes ! do check out all the messages here regarding bottle - u will find many. and above all let the baby be very hungry before putting the bottle in as only then they grab it - because they r so hungry - they can't go without it. don't worry ! keep trying and you will succeed soon. even i had a lot of trouble starting the bottle with my baby - i kept trying so she started drinking. if nothing works do try and change the nipples or a different formula or pump your milk and feed - u will have to experiment a little. but keep trying !! all the best !

Hi there,
Once the baby gets used to breast feeding its really hard for them to come to bottle. I had the same problem too.Give ur baby some time to adjust. She may know the taste difference too..If possible, pump and feed the breast milk in the bottle. Try to use slow flow nipple in the bottle.

Sing a lot and try to hold her similiar to breast feeding while bollte feeding. If possible, ask some other family member to bottle feed her. Babies usually associate mom to breast milk :))

Hope it helps..Good luck.
Regards,
Divya.

HI Kavita,

My 7 month son has the same problem. He don't throwup but he never takes formaula. Then I tried Nestle's Good Start formula and slowly he started taking it when he is very hungry. He takes only 1 or 1 half ounce. but something is better than nothing. Try Nestle's Good Start formula.

Good luck.

Hi everyone!!
Thanks for the tips. But still not working. Really having very hard time introducing bottle. I tried using avent cos(started with 2 oz diluted formula). He grabbed the nipple and finished it in 3 minutes but took out everything in half an hour. I also tried using Dr. Brown's gas free bottle but that also did not work. I tried when he was very hungry. He can very well make out the taste difference as he make lots of faces when he tastes formula.
I still have to try pumping breast milk and buying gerber's bottle. I hope it is going to work.
Please tell me other options of starting bottle.
Thanks once again
Regards
Kavita
