Due Date Club November 2003:Itchy tummies anyone - need desperate help

Hi girls,

I just started my 32nd week today. For the last 4-5 days I have started experiencing unbearable itching on my tummy and back..and the worst is this is navel upwards. I try to avoid scratching as I am very scared of getting stretch marks later esp. since all my itching is above the navel..right upto my shoulders...I have used enough of cocoa butter/ stretch mark creams etc..almost from day one..I even tried to use a bit of talcom powder last night.. Has anyone found any solution to overcome itching..something different to using these creams ?? Pls pls let me know.

Thanks a lot in advance..

Take Care.

Hi Ritu,
Sorry to hear about your itching problem. I too have it and have found a massage of olive oil before bath very helpful. Just rub it on your body and let it be absorbed for 30 mins or so and then have a shower with water that is less than lukewarm.
After your shower, just pat dry your body and apply the lotion.
This has worked for me and I have not used Coca Butter lotion at all thru out my pregnancy. I use jergins almond lotion.

Hope it helps

Hi..Thanks a lot for your replies. Anji I will try the oil message 30 mts before I have my bath..It's really cold in Melbourne these days (southern hemisphere and hence winters )so something less than lukewarm will be a big challenge but I will try my best.

Thanks again.

hi ritu. sorry to hear about the increased dryness, even i am feeling it more lately. temptation to itch is there but i try to avoid it too. though there is no medical fact that itching is causing strech marks.
anyways, i try almond oil, natural one so no perfume etc in it. just massage it whenever i feel dry and itchy. it sure helps for now. u could try vitamin E oil, or any other unperfumed oil too.
hope this helps.
with changing weather n winter approaching, dryness would be tough to beat but it is only 8 more weeks for u, so keep up the good work.
all the best.

Hi Ritu,

Even I've been having this problem from a long time, but not using any cream or anything. I scratch until I am satisfied and can see my tummy turning red. I am an allergic person, so I avoid any of the creams you have mentioned. As for the talcum powder is concerned, I would refrain from using it as talc is considered carcinogenic. Didn't mean to scare you, sorry.

If anyone gives a natural remedy I would be happy to follow. I heard applying witch hazel helps a lot, I am not sure where I could buy that.

Hope you get some relief soon.

Vindhya

Am from the Oct board.I also faced this and have put \";Palmers Cocoa butter cream for stretch marks\"; and Vitamin E oil and it kept the itching down.

Try to put it on as 2-3 times a day or more whenever its dry.The dryness usually caused the itching.
The above ones worked for me ,so hope it will work for u.Which cocoa cream did u use ?

Thanks for ur replies Vindhya and Nick. Nick I have also been using Palmer's cocoa butter cream for almost 3 months. Before that in the first 4 months I used Body Shop Cocoa Butter 'shea'. I was quite okay till now, but now my skin itches even after I use Palmer's cocoa butter to re-moisten my tummy..??:-(

and Vindhya , pls avoid scratching ur tummy..u might get a lot of stretch marks as a result of that..although I am not sure if that is the reason, but have been told so..but many people..

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a Diaper Service Provider in Bangalore? They generally provide cloth diapers and replace them with a new set every 2-3 days.

Thanks in advance
