Feeding:Bottle Feeding for 7 month old

Name: Ramesh Bhaskar

My 7 month old daughter is still not feeding from bottle. We give her with spoon and she has 60-70ml everyday. She also breastfeeds at regular intervals. She has also started with semi sold food - cerelac(rice/wheat) and home cooked food. We are happy with her eating routine, however just a bit concerned about this issue of rejecting bottle. We tried changing to a different bottle, that did not work either. Please suggest an alternate.

Hi dont worry many kids are like that slowly try to stop by not giving or keeping your kid busy with something else. With time your baby will stop having your milk.

There is no problem if your baby is not feeding on bottle as there are many kids who start drinking milk directly from the glass and it is actually better as some kids get cavities because of drinking milk in the bottle.

I think it is better that your baby is not in the habit of drinking milk from the bottle. Once kids get used to the bottle it is very difficult to shift them from the bottle to a glass when they grow up a lil.

It is nice that your daughter is eating properly as not a lot of babies eat properly and their parents are usually quite worried about it always. And as for the bottle give her some time and see what happens.

Hi Ramesh Bhaskar,
For baby mother breast feeding is only good for health because they will get all proteins and vitamins from mother only.Try to avoid even bottle feeding also let the child get feeded by mother milk only until five years.

Hello Ramesh,
Breast feeding for a child is good for health until 3 years according to my knowledge. Its better not to feed your kid with bottle. Give good diet to your child and she must have healthy growth. Take care of your child.

your daughter is perfectly fine. its not necessary every child should drink from bottle. if she is taking milk with spoon then its fine.i personally didn't use to drink milk from bottle. as my mother says so. and if she is getting breastfeed is is equally drinking milk with bottle as the technique is same. some kids don't like to drink from bottle. its perfectly fine.

If you are not having any luck with a bottle try these tips it may help you .. As per my experience i would suggest breastfed babies don't easily accept bottles from their mothers, so let a substitute care giver, grandmother or father introduce it to baby and when they are trying to bottle feed baby don't be even around in the room. Your baby will not accept it immediately but seeing you around will definitely start crying. If he doesn't drink with one bottle try another, i almost changed 10 bottles before my baby settled for the one. You will gradually understand your baby's bottle preferences. However try bottles with nipples that resemble as much as possible with the shape of your areola & nipple and avoid nipples that offer babies only a half-inch nubbin to latch on. One thing more don't try bottle feeding when your baby is desperately hungry as these are the times when baby feel irritated and looking for comfort sucking. So, try bottle feeding when baby is well rested, it will be easier.

Dear Ramesh Jee, you should not worry if baby rejects bottle. In fact it is good practice to feed with spoon as inspite of maximum care it is not possible to clean bottles properly and this leads to infection. You should be happy that your baby drinks through spoon. You should carry on with infant formula till one year and may consult your doctros on providing weaning foods like cerelac before one year. I guess it is not suggested.
