Eating Problems:Underweight for 20 months old
2008-06-12
Name: Navi

Hai all,

My daughter is 20 months old now. At the time of birth her weight was 3.15 kg but now it is 9.2 kg only. It is very difficult to feed her. We have to distract her attention showing some cartoons or cds. the doctor assked to give fruits and vegetables soup. we tried to give all varieties of food but she wont eat. Her daily routine is
@ 6.30 am - 1 glass milk
@ 9 am - breakfast - 1 idly or some cerels
@ 11.30 am- (sometimes)1 glass juice
@ 1 pm- lunch - rice with daal etc.
@ 5 pm- 1 glass milk
@ 7.30 pm- rice with daal etc.

My wife says that may be it is hereditary bocz even if she is 29 yrs old she weighs only 42 kg. some of my friends say that we dont have to worry as my daughter is very much active and doesn' t have any health problem.
Will you pls give your advices on this matter?

Hi nave
The same problem I am facing. But I think ur friends r right becoz being lean is never dangerous but being fat is always. wt gain should not be the concern. U know higher weight gain babies are more likely to have obesity in their future life. so dont wory.

Well gaining weight appropriate to the age is very Impotent. specially in the children under 5 yrs. at the age of 20 months 9.2 Kg is ideal weight for girls. so not to worry. keep on giving good diet. Encourage lots of play and positive environment in the house

Your DD is just like any another todllers who is least interested in food. after going through the daily routine u wrote i think u need to change your DD diet.from 12 to 24 months babies weight can be between 8 to 14 kg that what i read on internet somewhere, u dont want you kid to be thin or fat but in between like 11 to 13 kg is the ideal weight.
If you dont mind then instead of idly in breakfast give her toast with butter n cheese with a glass of a fruit juice, or make her parantha with butter in it, if she is eating idly she is only eating boiled rice u know what i mean, which can only provide carbs but nothing else n will fill her up very quickly as u know rice is filling food.

there is hardly any mention of fruit pl. make sure she eat atleast five serving of fruit n vege. in a day.

u can give her rice once a day but make sure to give her chapati also either in lunch or dinner.try to give her full fat curd or sweedish made up of full fat milk like rice kheer, custard with fruit etc.
see what she love to eat like burger or tikkies so u can add vegetables in them.try to make bread rolls u can add veges in them there endless just run your imagination.
