Jichi,
Babies digestion system is not fully developed. So babies have problem digesting heavy food stuff. Hence even though banana is recommended for constipation in adults, they cause constipation in babies.
Hope your baby is well

Hi, My 7 month old was highly constipated due to formula. I later changed to cows milk. (No choice)I also started giving him papaya and musumbi (sweet lime) juice which is very good for constipation. A big NO to banana and apples. Hope this helps.

Hi Jichi,

Prune juice and raisins are the best solution as told to you by Mathura.
One more thing --- Check your mixing of water and powder. constipation is also caused if the formula milk is more concentrated. Try to dilute a bit more than normal.
Also stop giving banana if you are giving.
hope this helps the little one.

Subject:  try giving prune or dried grape fruit

hi jichi,

i too have got a 6 month old son. what i have experienced so far is, once if they like the solid foods like fruits and vegetable mix, the BM intake gets reduced. We will solve this issue later on how to increase it.
now the main thing is constipation, which can be avoided by giving prune or dried grape fruit.
what i do is, daily morning soak 4 dried grapes(kismis) in hot water and about 3pm, will squeeze the fruits and give the juice alone to him.
it will be tasty and so they will surely take it. next day morning, my son passes stools normally. this works fine for me.
also my mom told that this juice is healthy for the baby to grow even.
try it and don't worry as this most common one for babies who are introduced to variety of solid foods at this stage.
all the best.

regards
mathura
