hi all
my 6 months old daughter developed eczema only on face one week after birth.eventually it resolved after many flare ups applying steroid cream every time almost at the age of 2 months.she has been taking cerelac rice & dal water 4 past one month.she is having very dry, rough to touch patches on her lower legs & arms (i dont know whether they started after introducing these foods or were there already).but i m not able to figure out whether it may be allergy or wot?as stool is also sometimes formed & sometimes little loose.can anybody guide me or share an experience regarding how r the allergic rashes after taking some food.she has been rubbing her eyes too much even when she was exclusively breastfed. how many motions a day r normal.& is little loose stool is normal.can we give any other dal apart from moong(that orange & yellow).

Mel replied. Glad to know that the rash has subsided. I wonder what caused the infection. But, glad that it has been identified and cured.
Take care. All the best.

Mel replied. It possibly could be dry skin. Just omit all dairy products for 3 days to make sure that it is not dairy. Then check with the other items one by one. I don' t know how good buffalo milk is for infants. Cow' s milk would probably be better. So, once you have established that she is not allergic to dairy, then try cow' s milk dahi.
Dried beans would include rajma, chola, yellow peas, etc. But, even with dried beans, cook it well, mash just 4 - 5 beans, remove the skins and mix with rice and dahi. And don' t give her too much, esp if she is gassy.
Let me know how it goes.
If there is no change, then your doc is probably right. But, even in that case... there is some cream that can be prescribed that reduces the rough patches. Once they disappear, then a simple lotion applied after bath will ensure that it never recurs.
The cream was called Fluticasone and it comes in a small bottle or small tube. But, please consult your doc before applying it.
I applied a thin film after bath (only on the patches) for about 4 days and the patches completely disappeared.
After that, the only thing that I do regularly is apply Vaseline Lotion (Not petroleum jelly, but the big bottle of Vaseline lotion), the big blue and white bottle is the best. Just take a glob on your hand and apply on one leg for a day or two, if she is not allergic to it, then apply it daily after bath, all over her body. I even use it on his face.
Mel replied. My son developed similar rashes on his legs and arms. The doctor said that I should stop his oil massage. Once I stopped applying oil, the rash disappeared. Here' s what you do. If you oil massage her, eliminate the oil. Instead try massaging her with Vaseline lotion. Also, some babies (like my son) are allergic to most products including ALL JOHNSON & JOHNSON products. So, if you are using J&J soap, switch with Mothercare Baby Wash or Dove Soap (the normal blue packet dove, not the pink or green ones). Watch for 3-4 days. If the allergy goes down, then it could mean that the allergy was superficial. And that her diet is ok. In this case, please don' t ever use the products / oil that you were using earlier.
If it doesn' t subside, then eliminate one item from her diet. First, eliminate the dal. Offer her cerelac and rice. If the rash subsides, then she is allergic to dal. DO NOT GIVE HER ANY OTHER DAL. It will be too complex for her to digest. Just eliminate Dal. She can get proteins from dried beans, yoghurt, soy etc. If there is no change, then eliminate cerelac for 3-4 days.... followed by rice.... Is she on BM only or a combination of BM and FM ? Try changing the FM too. It could also be a dairy allergy. In which case, you may have to stop formula as well as cerelac.
And show her to a doc, so he can give her something for the allergy. Allergies, if allowed to go unchecked can lead to a heart attack. So, show her to a doc. And try to figure out what she is allergic to.

It could also be besan. Are you bathing her with the traditional besan-milk cream-haldi paste ? My son was allergic to besan.
