Sleeping:Bad sleeping habits
2006-10-15
Name: Purvi

I have 2 month colicky baby who sleeps only on my chest for 3-4 hours in the morning. He will sleep in his bassinet for the first part of the night. his schedule is mainly like this. Sleeps 10-1 gets up to eat, then sleeps another 2 hours, after that he does not sleep in his bassinet any more, he then sleeps on my chest until about 7 in the morning. I need to break him of this habit, but is very hard espcially when I need my sleep also. Please give me and tips and is this just a colicky baby phase that will pass.

hai!!
dont worry.i had similiar experiance with my son who is now 7 months.he use to scream from nnon 3 to eve 7.even with my c section i was taking him all around my apartment to settle him down.i think the baby finds relief for his pain tht position sleeping on ur chest.usually they say putting the baby in such a way tht,the baby's tummy on ur arms and supporting baby's body by ur lap and patting them in back relieves their gas pain to some extent..
so all uhave to do is just be patient.afterall ur little one is also under lot of pain and he has no way to complain abt it to u.
thistoo shall pss in another 2 weeks.
a big fact is babies till 6 months CANNOT be spoiled or DONT get habituated to Any routines.so dont worry..
all the best
regards

dont worry.babies till 6 months cant be spoiled or be habituated to any kind of routine.may be the way in which the baby sleeps on ur chest is giving him relief from his gas pain.usually they ask u to put the baby's tummy on ur arm(like in a hanging position)but the body shud be suported by ur lap.in this positiong most babies get good comfort for colic.
so just wait for another 2 weeks.he will be out of colic phase and slwly will give ur sleep(atleast during nights)back to u..all u have to do is just be patient.after all tht littleone is also suffering alot but cudn't utter out a word to explain his pain.
my son is now 7 months.when he was 4 weeks he was screaming non stop from afternoon 3 to night 7.wotever i did was not good enuf.i use to stroll with him around my apratment even though i had him with a c-section.in 4 weeks he was fine and now i take him just for fun ealks..
so just wait and be patient.
try giving mylicon(ifu r in US doctors recommend this, but consult ur baby's doc)in india gripe water is the best solution.iwas giginv my son alternately gripe water and mylicon.atyleast for 5 minutes he will sleep cos of tht..
all the best
ofcourse this too shall pass!!
regards

Sleep Problem due to itchy skin
My baby girl is unable to sleep properly due to skin rashes. I have resumed oil massages to help calm her down and facilitate better sleep, using CITTA Baby Massage Oil. Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. Could you please provide me with more ideas that can promote better sleep for her?... - Sanchari Tarafdar [View Message]

RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
