Thank you all for warning against this agency, I almost called them too, but decided against it after reading all the warnings. I've had terrible experience with agencies here too. One was an agent in shivajinagar
Tays away from it
But if anybody knows of a maid looking for a job, without an agency also would be helpful. All help are welcome.

Subject:  Lessons learnt out of full time maids

I have a very recent experience to share although I had procured a maid through a news paper add in Karkala -
We had appointed a maid from Karkala (Mrs Devaki Moily) thinking that she is from our native place and would be reliable. We were in urgent need for full time maids as I am expecting and agreed for a salary of Rs 8500 per month. She was quite good for the first 2 weeks after which she started demanding financial benefits such as mobile phones etc. Day by day she started demanding more emotionally and financially . I am working and can hardly make time for any one including my husband. She had complaints that I am not spending much time with her. She was expecting me to chit chat with her with when I was working from home and never let me rest at peace when I was advised 2 weeks complete bed rest due to some initial complications. She even had complains about my husband coming home late (which I have not cared for years !) . I had ignored all these things thinking that I am over-reacting to the situation, but never gave a servant like treatment to her - She had all the freedom to sleep when ever and how ever long when she wished, she had a good bedroom with complete privacy and comfertable bed, we let her eat what ever she wanted from the fridge, go where ever she needed, watch Tv when ever she wanted. I even used to give her oil massage during weekends. We also used to take her out along with us when ever we could , during weekends and shared our drinks with her. In a span of 2 months, we have sponsored her travel to Karkala 4 times due to various reasons setting an expectation that this would be deducted from her salary. However, last time after she left, she never turned back and she has not been responding over phone. After trying hard to reach her (using alternative mobile), she started complaining that she was not being entertained emotionally and we had kept a track of her advances (so not treating her like a family member !) . She even refused to pay back our advances and after a long followup she agreed to pay back in a span of 1 month (which we are yet to observe). I am now 5 months pregnant and am left without any support with a big shock. This has been a very big lessons learnt - a. Maids should be treated like maids - They can never be a family member, even if they are from your own native b. Expectations should be clear when it comes to financial benefits and conduct. c. There should be a clear limit set for advances . d. Personal matters should never be discussed with maids and their level of influence should be limited to the work for which they are appointed for.

I agree with you disha, I am 15 months kid and I am a working women. I stay alone with my husband and even I do not have any support. But don´ t worry...Have faith in god and everything will fall in place. Instead of appointing maids, ask for help from your family members or your in-laws. I have not appointed any maid and I handled everything on my own with the help and support of my loving husband and now my mother-in-law will come to stay with me to take care
Loving in laws is the best gift i feel

Beware of fraud maid agency run under a lady named Parvati in Hebbal - Sanjay Nagar Bangalore. They provide maids for baby sitting and demand a certain salary + commission that is valid for a year. But the maid goes on a vacation for couple of weeks and after returning demands double the amount of salary. And also spreads all false rumours against the owners and the baby. I am a victim of the same. My maid was named Sibani Dulai. She is a big fraud. Beware Parents!!!

Hi,

Recently I have started looking for household maid. I am living in Vasvani Golf vista near Microsoft and Dell building. I contacted Prithvi Enterprises for the same. Does anyone know about them? How much is it reliable to contact these agencies? Without registration they wont send anyone but if I pay then they either way will not send. What should I do? Can Anyone tell whether maid can be found only thru agencies? Any maid is available in this area? Please help..

Hi Anand,

Problem with the agency is that first they ask money only then they are ready to provide maid.

Hello Sona,
I have tried some and they definitely ask money first. But others like IRIS whom i dealt with are accomodative and willing to take money only when they get the people to you. I do not recommend IRIS but just used their name as i had dealt with them. However i think it is individual bargaining power and the ability to search through different agencies. You will have to make many phone calls and ensure that you speak firmly. But competition in this industry will ensure that atleast someone is willing to play by your rules.

Best of Luck
Anand

Subject:  Standard Operating Practice for Maid Agencies

Hello Moms & Dads,

Based on my experience in Bangalore with Maids and Maid agencies i am writing below the tips to be followed while dealing with various maids/agencies.

a) The agency should be a reputed agency. How you find this out is by either checking around or asking him/her for references of previous customers.

b) DO NOT HAND OVER the initial payment of around Rs. 2000 or Rs. 2500 to the agency. Once this is done you are at their mercy. There are many agencies which are willing to work in arrears and not in advance. The chances of you getting a maid once you pay upfront is lower than if you withhold the money. Obviously once the agency gives you the person then you need to clear the amount, but not before.

c) In smaller agencies, never deal with their associates/freelancing parties etc. Always deal directly with the proprietor/director. This may not be possible with larger agencies.

d) Insist on a receipt for the money you pay. He may fool you saying he needs to pay sales tax etc. but all that is crap. You are within your right to insist on a receipt.

e) Put a precondition to the agency that his getting a maid is no guarantee that you will accept. You need to make the final decision after seeing her, interviewing her and thinking about it.

f) Tell the maid and the agency that the first one week will be a trial period. Do not agree for long term commitments.

g) Find out the languages which the maid knows and see if it is compatible with your needs

h) Get a photograph of the maid and her complete physical residential address in her home town (not in bangalore). God forbid, but you may need it someday.

i) Standard agreements are available with all agencies. Insist on an agreement

j) AS part of the fees, the agency is supposed to certify, verify the maid to ensure that she comes from a clean record/b ackground. Insist verbally on this being done.

k) Do not leave valuables in the house for your maid to get tempted.

l) Preferably spend 30 minutes writing out roles and responsibilities for the maid and convert it into local language if possible. This will avoid many future miscommunications and expectation mismatch.

Best of Luck.

Anand
