Problems in School:Killing in school - what went wrong??

Hi,

I just wanted to start a topic of discussion based on the recent killing in a well known school in Delhi...hope you would have all read in newspapers & seen on tv. Actually I was shocked to hear it and was reminded of the shootings that we hear commonly in the western countries like US.
What went wrong??......I started to wonder, whether we' re really giving our children the right values closer to our Indian culture, the right education or are our children getting too much of exposure to violence on TV, cinemas, western culture etc.

Do you think in such type of incidents the parents are to blame or the school system is to be blamed or is it the rapid pace of development that we see all around us which is influencing our children a lot?

Do you think as parents, we should take time out of our busy lives and spend more quality time and teaching our children with right values that will avoid situations like this?

Do you feel that teachers and school in general have a bigger role in building up the personality/character of our children than just teaching academics?

Share your thoughts, views on these...

Hi Aruna,

School system is not blamed for this type of behaviour. In a year actualy 67 days (200 days x 8 hours = 1600 hours) children are spending their time in schools.

In modern days 99% of children are watching their disrespect and humiliation of INLAWS,NEIGHBOURS & OTHERS by their parents who are knowingly or unknowingly give study class to their children.

This causes the leakage of human nature in children. Every one is running for their own goal in WHATEVER WAY to achive.

Parents are the role models to children. There is a saying \" IF MOTHER JUMPS A FENCE, CHILDREN WILL JUMP HIGH WALLS\" no doubt.

In my view this is what happened here.

Try to be a role model to your children.
