Hi,
My son is around 11 months old. I feed him semi-solids using spoon. Sometimes when we are eating I give him a piece of chapati which he eats on his own. Can anybody tell me how and when to encourage kinds to feed themself? I have seen few kids who start eating independently from 1.5 years and have seen few kids who can' t eat independently even when they are 5 years old. Any tips are welcome.

If ur kiddo is sitting well, crawling then u can put some food on a plate give him a spoon...but parent attention is very necessary...kids wonts have enough food as much as we feed by spoon but they enjoy playing with spoon...somtimes they take some in btwn their fingers and put it in the mouth...let him play around...put some paper and on it put the plate...so that we can avoid cleaning all the food stuffs thrown on the floor...see watch how they enjoy it...
