Hi all.
I just returned from a short holiday with my hubby. sadly, I fell ill with a nasty sore throat and now a baaaaaaad cold. I also feel feverish at times.

Im getg a bit worried as to how this could/would affect the baby. anyone has any comments?

Also, wondering if u know of the safety of taking crocin/adusol syrup during pregnancy...

Thanks all!
E

Dear E,

I think its best to stick to steam and gargling. My doc says Adusol is very safe. So no harm taking that. But its best if you can avoid crocin or any tablet.

Hope your feeling better

Hi E,
Don't worry much. Even I had a Cold and Cough in my 5th month. The same day I visit my gync. I was also having a fever so she gave me some injection(don't remember the name now) and tablets. She had prescribed the tablet for 5 days.. but I just took them for a day or two.. and once I felt that I am doing better then I just stopped them.
I suggest you to visit you doctor and check what she has to say...

Best of luck.. Take care.. Keep Posting

Hi E P,

From what I have heard, having a cold or a sore throat wont really affect your baby. During pregnancy you are usually adviced to take extra care because the doctors dont want you to take any medicines than actually required. I know of friends who have had fever too during their pregnancy and they've been fine later. So I dont think there should be any problem. My doc had suggested that I take crocin in case I feel feverish. Thats the only thing they say I can take. In the meanwhile, home remedies like gargling and steaming can do wonders. So keep doing them.

Best,
Raji

Hi E,
I too had really bad cold, cough & some fever in my 4th month. But I am in the US & my doc advised me to take tylenol..that too the non-drowsy light one... I have heard from my mom that dont take crocin etc whatever happens..so pls consuct ur doc once before taking any medicine..because there might be different types in those too..
Get well soon

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
