Dear aarushi -

I commend you on wanting to raise your child the \";indian\"; way but I don't think it will make your child indian he he/she is using a pacifer or not or thumb sucking.

I didn't want my son on a pacifer and I thanked god that he refused it even when I offered it to him (because he would get out of controll). For some children, they find their thumbs and find that more soothing, some children once given the pacifier keep it for many years. It will be difficult for you to break the habit afterwards just as it would of thumbsucking. My suggestion would be to not encourage it and find other ways for your child to soothe themselves, such as hugging a stuffed animal, etc.

Pacifiers are a definite 'yes' compared to thumb sucking....thumb sucking can raise the gums which would result in teeth pointing outwards! You certainly don't want that. Good Luck!
