i have a daughter who is 3 yrs 8 months old. she is good all the time except when i give her something to eat or drink. the problem is she keeps her food in her mouth for too long and would take at leat 1 1/2- 2 hrs to finish a meal this starts with her milk in the morning. she goes to school by 8.45 and is able to manage to finish only 3/4 glass of milk and brings back the food which i pack for her. every mealtime of the day is very tough time for me. i end up hitting her sometimes and still she does not finish her meal. there is a substantial amount left when i give up everytime. could it be any problem related to ENT? i can' t even give her snacks for she leaves them also unfinished. next yr she would be going to regular school. i am very worried. My Son is 1.7 yrs. old and even he does the same thing. But this happens in phases for him for example some weeks he would be too good with the food and some weeks he will keep the same stuff in mouth for long, some times I will finish up his bath but still he won' t swallow. Though I never get a thought that he is having some ENT issue rather I thought its concentration and like issue. Try to give her when she is not noticing, I mean she is deep into some acitvity and just put food in her mouth without she realizing much. This works many a times for my son. pritikamal replied. Hi,My daughter started doing the same thing when she was 3.5 years old.At first i thought that this was just a phase and it will pass, but now she is 5 years old and still has that habit.Anyways dont get disheartened....since now i am able to communicate with her better,she understands that it is a bad habit and is trying hard to stop it.
