dear all
my son is 20 months old..and i am tired of trying to make him eat since the last 2 months. every meal is a struggle. the problem with him is that he is very bad with textures. just takes pureed food (apart from upma, idli, khichri)these days he has just stopped eating all together. No matter what i give he simply refuses to open his mouth. i donot belong to the school of moms who anyhow manage to forcefeed their kids.
Another major problem is that he doesnt take water. The whole day he takes about 1(one) ounce of water. I have tried changing the sippers. Even flavoured the water. Gave juice and coconut water. But he simply refuses to drink anything.
i am very tired now....what can i do?? any new recipe i try is a failure with him. he takes in a very monotonous menu.
IS anyone else facing this problem>>??

my son is healthy otherwise. also he likes drinking milk(toned) he takes in 4 bottles of 8 ounce daily.

can anyone suggest some other recipe>>??

thankx

U may find this silly dear, but u have to reduse the milk intake of your son 32oz of milk is too much and milk in itself is a whole food dear, so wonder he is not intrested in food after that. plus when he drinks milk he is getting fluids also so he is not thristy for water. hope that explaine everything. at 20 months yours son should eat more or less what u cook for family there is no need to make special food for him.try to give him only 15 or 16 oz of milk in a day.I have no idea what is your routine but if u can try this for some time
6 - 7 5 oz of milk
8 - 8.30 slice of a bread, with butter , cheese or jam, or some breakfast cereal or even bread pakora (my sons fav. with full spices etc)
11 - some fruit

1 - lunch what ever u cook for family or try rice with all the vegetables n give your son with curd
kids dont eat more then 20 or 22 weaning spoon. make sure to give him water to drink n if your son take afternoon nap then give him 5 -6 oz of milk now.

when ever your son wakes us guess 5 o clock give him some fruit flavoured yougarts or fruit or biscuit or cheese cubes to eat plus give him fresh fruit juice
7 - 8 dinner what ever is cooked for family like lentils roti or rice if your son is not keen on roti then bread will work. also give him some thing sweet to eat like custard, rice kheer etc.
n just before going to bed bottle again
n if he wants more then like full bottle give him.
with my own exper. i use to give my son puree food then one day i was away doing shopping n was 1 1/2 hour late to give his lunch. when i came home i cooked rice with all the vegetbales n was going to puree it when suddenly i put couple of spoon of rice in my sons mouth n he was happy to eat so from that day bye bye to puree food.for my surprize he was even happy to eat tiny chunky of beans, carrots and peas.
try to give your son food which has salt or wee bit of red mirch powder also my son love to eat tasty food he wont open mouth for anything which is bland. like couple of days back i gave my son bread with some butter spread then some cheese and dipped it in baked bean sauces he loved it. as i mentioned above bread pakora is his fav. so try these. try to divert your son attention to something else while u put food in his mouth. like now days my utensils have quite a good bumps on then pheewwwwwwwwww thanks to my lil monkey. give him drawing book n crayons 1 year plus (no toxic one) let him draw some while to feed him.
cut story short dear reduse the milk intake your son will be hungry n will eat what ever come in front of him. dont expect things to change in couple of day it can take weeks or a month but he will get there he wont be eating puree food through out his life. make a meal time a happy time tell story to him n smile. all the best dear
