Feeding:18 mth old...sudden loss of appetitie. Pls help!

Hi all,

My son is 18.5 months old.
His birth weight was 2.56 kg and now he is 9.4 kg.

I believe his weight is on the lower side but he has always been a fussy eater.
I have tried variations in his diet and there has been some success at times.

However, I am posting this for a more recent problem. Over the past 4 days he seems to have a sudden lose of diet.
On an average, I used to manage giving him 2 meals (dinner is always a challenge), some snacks in between and about 300 ml of milk.
However, since these past days his diet has been 150 ml of milk, about 1 incomplete meal eaten half-heartedly.

I even spoke to the doc. He is of the opinion that since the child is active and there are no symptoms of illness, I should not worry.

However, I am getting increasingly concerned. I just hope his body receives enough nutrients required for healthy growth.

Has anyone encountered such thing? What could be the cause of sudden lose of appetite. What I can do to change it...
Please help!

Thanks a lot
Rashmi

my son is 16 months old and he is doing the same thing for the past 2 weeks. He is teething and i associate his loss of appitite to that. I keep trying to offer him something to eat. for the past 2 weeks his diet has been only fruits..mainly the ones that are sour....orange, strawbeery , blueberries...i hoping he will be back on track very soon

Hi Rashmi,

My daughter is also 18 months and goes through same phase now and then. Make sure, he is not have any infection or is teething. My daughter is also very picky eater. Just make sure he is well hydrated, give milk, shakes, yogurt whatever he likes. Keep trying the solids frequently than just breakfast, lunch or dinner only, he' ll eat when he wants. I agree with your pediatrician, if he is active with no signs of infection or teething, he is fine.
Take care and Good Luck!

Dear all,

Thank you so much for your responses.

My son´ s appetite was further on the downslide over the weekend.

I again spoke to the doctor today and he suspected some 1st grade stomach infection.
He prescribed some meds and I have started the dosage. There is a minor improvement today. He was in a better mood and not cranky as these past few days. Also, there was some improvement in his diet. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks again!
Rashmi
