My son is 14 months old and I am trying to wean pacifier but he cries a lot, previously he wanted the pacifier during sleep time but now he has started asking for it in mornings. Has anybody faced the same issue. We tried weaning the pacifier but he started putting fingers in mouth, should we keep giving him pacifier or let him use his fingers.

Hi Geeta,

My daughter is addicted to paci as well...she sleeps only when the paci is in her mouth...till date she has probably slept without the paci on 2-3 ocassions only.

My co-sister' s daughter ws using the paci till she was 4.

Hi Geeta
This is the right age to start weaning. My son was also too much addicted to it at that age. And as yours, his demands were also increasing. But, one day i made the decision, not to give. Believe me, one day you have to be strong. He cried, he even vomited, he did every possible tantrum to get it back. But, I made myself strong. And if someday, I found myself getting weak, I asked my husband to take over.
Some tips for you -
1. Before sleep, play a lot with him.
2. Read books before sleep
3. My kid used to wake up night to get it at around 1,3,4 am. After 4 am, I stopped giving it to him. I used to wake up with him and start my day.
4. Above all, follow your instinct.
And a 2 week' s effort and he has forgotten the pacifier. He is now 18 months.
