i read your reply to Madhu saying
\" now coming to your query i know many kids who were striclty on milk diet till 3 years but after they they have eaten all kinds of foods\"

My daughter has started eating she is 22 months now but the problem is she eats very little when she eats on her own. her weight , health touch wood is fine but her main diet is still milk. at night b4 going to sleep she will have milk in bottle, mid nite she gets up once for milk, then early morning say between 4.30 to 5.30 am she gets up i will gv her milk she goes back to sleep, same thing in the afternoon b4 sleeping she hv to have milk or else she doesnt sleep.

otheriwse she has started eating normal food like us what we cook for us

My question comes now:

Last week we had a wedding in our family i had gone to stay at my realatives place for a week, many guests had come to attend wedding. trust me who ever had come for wedding objected to my daughters habit of drinking milk, some people also said giving too much of milk is harmful at this age, you wont beleive what i am saying last nite i got irritated and i ddnt gv milk to my daughter poor girl was so restless
i know what i did was wrong but all htose comments are really disturbing me
people were like arre you know her daughter doesnt eat anything she only survives on milk my daughter was topic of conversation plus every1 was advising me, giving tips on how to starve her then offer her food
but as i said she eats on her own but very little , but i make sure that breakfast, lunch n dinner either me or my mil feeds her n in between whatever she eats we leave it to her we dont force her
is there anything worng in what we are doing? is it true that too much of milk is harmful? is it that i am not able to take care of my daughter well?
right now she has increased her milk intake whenever b4 sleeping i gv her 8 oz, mid night she has 4 oz, early morning she has 4 oz and in the afternoon b4 going to sleep she has 8 oz..

now you tell me is this quantity harmful?
my duaghter now drinks water also on her own

i really donbt knwo please help

thanks alot for clearing my doubts, more than irritated i am angry coz my daughter was topic of gossip ..u know possesv mother...lol..for get it..
as far as what vidya says about fruits and veg then my duaghter eats veg , she is not so found of fruits but when i gv her milk shake she drinks
u will b surprised she eats patta bhaji on her own, other wise many children dont eat, infact i hate methi ka bhaji but she eats
as i said earlier she eats but acc to others her solid intake is very less, they say must eat normally like us, whn she sees us eating she will sit with us
i just wanted opinion on this issue from you people jsut to clear my doubt ..the main thing i wanted to know if her milk intake was really too much as others says
and she doesnt get up daily mid noght for milk otherwise i gv her milk milk only b4 going to bed in early morning..which i think its a good habit i can always continue.

anyways thanks for clearing my doubt

hi gauri,
24 ounces of dairy is what is recomended to children after 1 year. its not harmful if u go over the recomended amount but u are substituting dairy for carbs and protein that are very very essential for a children growth. reduce the quantity during each feed. when she gets up in the mid night for milk give her water instead... belive me they very qucikly realise its not worth getting up for water in the middle of the night. if she is taking recomemnded amounts of fruits and vegetables everyday which is about 3-4 table spoons of each... she should be fine...Dont get frustrated.. have fun parenting.. kids grow up so fast !!!

hi guari,
at the first place stop getting irritated.if your daughter is drinking milk and only milk there is no fault of yours.infcat she is doing avery good thing for herself..by drinking milk and only milk she is feeing her brain with fat for her brain development and calcium for her strong bones...its very important thing untill a toddler turns 5 years fat and calium are very important.i do agree that other minerals are also important but a multivitamin supplmement will help her .no need to worry but make sure you give her a iron fortified milk like lactogen and also pediasure which has iron in it.that solves your problem.but after two or 3 years we need to try every way to encourage them to taste all kind of stuff...so the change processs should be slow.
as far as getting irritated by your relatives goes...they have every right to say..but fortunately you are given two ears... right? one is to take in and the other is to..........?...so just chill pill
ok bye
