hi friends,

my son is now 5 months old. we r in US. my husband's mom came here for my delivery. am a first time mom. even though i have some knowledge about breastfeeding, and i choose to breast feed my child, in practice, i didnt know how to position, etc. when i opted for renting breastpump, my mother inlaw opposed each and every move, and she didnt even came near me to help me out, instead she said am not willing to give my child breast milk and shse insisted to give my baby formula. my hubby was on tour mostly and i had no one to help and since the baby cried a lot even after i feed, i gave some formula. this continued and after my mother in law left to india, that time my son was nearly 3 months. i tried vigorously to give breast milk, but alas! all in vain. i find hardly any milk. after vigorous trying, i can able to feed him at night. i dont know how much milk is coming or because of warmth,my child has skipped his midnight formula now. am feeling guilty now. now i know how to feed etc because of my experience, but it is too late for my son. am crying now for my inability of not feeding my son. just felt this and so i want to share with u all.

Hi!I think you in a better position then me. I tried to breastfeed my baby for 1 week and then i gave up because my baby is unwilling to drink from me. I did not have enough milk also, if i pump i used to get 5 ml milk. So......in the process i came to know about a few things. If your baby is gaining weight properly and is not fussy after feeding then that means your milk is sufficient. Dont follow up the feeding with a bottle, if he is hungry he will cry and then you can fee him again. If baby is skipping his formula in the night that means his stomach is full with milk.
For improving milk supply take Fenugreek seeds(methi) from a vitamin shop and take 3 capsules /day. In one day your milk supply will double. Let me know how it works.

I am a first time mom too from India and my son turns 5 months. You know initially I also went thru a phase when I did not know whether the breastmilk was sufficient but well it was alright. You know older people sometimes find it too cold to use breast pump so probably thats why she reacted. I think you should not worry and do whats best for your child. If you can breast feed do that else if the milk does not come and it happens to many mothers you should give formula milk as the baby needs the nutrients. I am hope u feel better now. Mostly u should take it easy and not get stressed as it affects the child as well as ur milk supply I think.
take care
