Hi,

Myt daugter is 1 year old and my milk has almost stopped. I have weaned my daughter from daytime feeding. But its extremely difficult to stop night feedings. She screams and cries uncontrollably and we are in USA, in an apartment complex its very difficult to let her cry for long. Also its just me and husband at home.
Pls anyone let me know how to deal with this situation

Thanks
Asha

Dear Asha,

I also faced this. I had weaned my baby from the day feeds, but she would insist on having my milk at night. Even though my milk had stopped, still she wanted the comfort and it became a habit.
Then she began drinking formula milk at 6:00 am, 2:00 pm and after she slept at night at around 10:00pm, I would carry her and put a bottle in her mouth at around 10:30pm. She started drinking all of the milk. That made her sleep through the night and even though she would wake up (for the comfort) I would just carry her and she would go back to sleep, without my milk. It has been 3 weeks now and she is self weaned.
So try offering her a formula feed after she goes to sleep at night.
All the best

I was also scared about same prob. What work for us is, first stop day time feeding , after she comfortable with it, then in the night time, let start friday night, your husband holds for sleeping, you sleep in another room with blanket over, so that you r not visible.if she asks , your hus roam her around, that u r not there, then she sleeps after some time..this works for us...she didn' t ask me to feed in day time also.afyer 7 days she forget completely

Hello asha, I too faced this when my lil was around 1 year. She wont have long time nap in day time, only for 30 min. and night times she cries a lot around 1 or 2 and sleeps only by 4am.

Have u started using feeding bottle with formula for her? it is not wrong in using at night time feeding(dream feed).

Morning after she wakes up offer her milk, say around 6 or 7am. then maintain 3 hours gap and start her breakfast by 9am, fruits/ fingerfoods by 10:30am, meals by 2pm, milk/fruits/omellete by 4pm, dinner around 7 pm. whenever she cries, offer her cheese slices, pasta/ maccroni(well boiled until very soft), banana rounds, boiled peas, carrot sticks. u can add spices to taste up her food. 3 to 4 hours sleep at daytime. After dinner by 7:00, make her play for some time. so when she sleeps she wont feel the heaviness in stomach. at 10:00 give her milk. if she cries at night give her formula in small amount like 100ml or 120ml. later on 1 or 2 days, try to stop that also. By 1 year infants should be able to sleep for 8 hours with out any feeding. make her stick to this routine.

search for hetals meg ids in this forum, that will guide u better.
