Yes! Story telling is an art and it is difficult yes enjoyable when you are telling story to a baby who is below 1 year.
We have a daughter, Akshada, who is 8th month old. When she completed 3 month, we had taken her to Doctor for routine checkup. And Doctor (Child Specialist) told us that 4th, 5th & 6th month period is very crucial for babies. The more baby is exposed to new things, brain develop fast. So we began telling stories with actions and different voices. We also kept all small toys. As per my observation, children loves stories of animal and if it is told by making different animal voice and regular movement of hands and fingers, they really enjoy it. In between stories, you can also add a song. Initally, baby will observe and as day goes, they will try to express their feelings.
It is really a good moment when you say a story and your child is reacting by shouting, laughing and even singing.
And slowly, you can recite nursery rhymes, 1-10 nos, alphabets like A for Akshada, B for Ball as and when you get time. I am sure by applying this method, Baby will learn fast.
Also, while lying idle, we read out story books ,which are colourful, loudly which will later on definitely develop interest for reading.
