Dear all,

I am a first time mom of 5 month old baby & i am eager to intoduce him rice cereal. He is on lactogen 1 primarily. Please guide me how to start with cerelac rice cereal? I gave him 1scoop of cerelac+3 oz of formula(max amt of formula he takes is 5 oz per feeding)bu it was so thin in the consistency that it was very difficult to be fed with a spoon.I simply put it in his bottle & gave it to him but as I have read that pea. never recomment cereal in bottles as it causes choking & rice may go into babies lungs also. Please advise how much quantity of the rice to be mixed with formula & how to introduce it ?
One thing more, twice i tried to give him daal ka paani & he had frequent motions.Although Dr said that its due to sum infections not \" Daal ka Paani\" yet still i am hesitating in restarting it?Is it ok to start with Moong ki daal ka paani?

Thanks,
Monica

my doc asked me to mix onetsp of rice powder with 50ml formula... i have to try it today...will let u know if it doesnt work.
any new food will cause a reaction in babies...so try after few days.. maybe u can add more water and as he adjusts u can reduce the water

hi Monica,
Firstly, its a good idea to start with Dal ka Paani(Moong Daal). Only some children, like my dd, was prone to gas & so i was slow with Dal.
Also dont offer a huge quantity in the begining ..just 2-3 spoons n see how it goes.. then u can think of increasing it.
When i started rice for my daughter, in the begining I mixed it with breast milk as she was breast fed till then. So u can use Lactogen.
Are u mixing 3 oz n 1 spoon of cereal. try to use 1.5 to 2 oz.
Yes, Never use a bottle to feed cereal. IT reinforces the bottle habbit n gives a wrong message to the child.
To feed the liquid like cereal, u can try this, Sit with your legs streched out straight, lay the baby, with her head on ur thighs,so the head elevated a lil , n then put lil spoon fulls into her mouth. Try to put the spoon inside her mouth so its easy for her.
Be patient n feed her slowly
Its better to use a plastic spoon with soft rims to avoid injury.
In the begining it can be a lil diff, but with time u n ur son will learn :)
However, do not continue feeding him in this position for long. Once , he can feed well n sit supported well, start feeding him sitting.

All the best n have fun :)

Also remember that your axiety/excietment/frustration during meals time will reflect on ur son n can make feeding even difficult.
SO be as calm as possible and do not force. Give him as much as he accepts, if doesnt then feed him formulae and try the cereal at a later time:)

Take care

dal ka paani will def cause gas but you can grind jeera n saunf lil less than jeera 2gether whenever you make dal ka paani take lil pure ghee (say half tsp in the begginng) put this pwoder than add soaked moong dal n water n pressuer cook, best time to gv dal ka paani is for lunch or when its not your babies sleeping time , let him take a burp and you leave him let him play on its own, small babies when they move their arms ans legs its like a playing for them alone ths wont gv them gas prob ...initally avoid dal ka pani at night n for 1 yr i gv only mong dal
also whenver you feeel your baby is cranky n not sleeping properly u can always gv gripe water but dont make habit.
and i totally agree with the way aradhana has sugested to feed

also pay attention to quantitiy beginning 2 to 3 tsp are jsut enough and lastly i wud suggest wait to comeplete 6 motnhs dont hurry in giving solids when the right time comes they will eat , we have to make them use to solids not force them to eat, bbies are very very moody its so diff to find out their likes and dislikes soon you will know
but learn to be patient
when you start with any solid then consis should be little thick than milk then slowly and graduaaly inc the quntity n thickness till you are sure your baby can swallow this now.
for one year babies main diet should be milk
