hi,
my son is 8 months old qnd we live in georgia.i give him gerber food + rice+dhal+veg etc. i haven't started giving him any non veg, but dr advised us to give him chicken,beef etc..i don't want to do that till he becoms one...but i am worried whether he's getting enough protein...can any one help me out..i am sure there will be lot of vegetarian mommies...thanx a lot..

thanx a lot for your replies...can tofu be given as it is or should it be cooked? i guess egg yolk can be given only when the baby is 9 months..

hello anju,

my baby eats tofu as it is.so try your baby by giving raw tofu.actually just warm for few seconds and serve.if he does'nt like then you can add in the veggies you cook for him.but try it as raw.

i totally agree with Shalu.i am a veg and i give my baby lots of milk,egg,and tofu.tofu is the best suppliment for non veg.also ghee and cheese are good.so try all of them.all the best.

Sonal, tofu is made from soya beans..if you live in bangalore or madras, you can check in food world..i remember seeing it in food world...in us, its available in all grocery stores

Subject:  Protein & Fat



Non veg mainly has more protein and fat. For that you can substitute with Cheese, Tofu , soya beans, Ghee, eggs. You can add ghee to the rice dhal thing you are giving to him. You can give cheese as a snack. If you are ok with eggs you can start with gerber puddings or something which has egg yolks in them. Some kids are allergitic to egg yolks so watch out.

Hi,
My son is also 9 months old and a vegetarian. can anyone please tell me what tofu is? At the moment I give him dhal rice and ghee and green vegetables with melted cheese on it. I am also worried about the protien he has.
