My daughter is 18 months old and was born with soft cleft palate. I wanted to know if your babies have undergone speech therapy in Bangalore. If yes, at what age ? and for how long ?
Reply from Viji Srikanth and Santanu Ganguly would be appreciated.

Please advise me at the earliest.

Many thanks

Subject:  my teenage cousin sister

Well my teenage cousin sister also had this problem and we got her treated in Vellore /CMC, when she just one year old and now she is 16 years. However, owing to our not so good financial condition we could not complete the whole process. She still suffers from problem in talking/her words are not clear as ours, moreover the signs of that surgery is also clearly visible giving her a lots of hardship and depression! And now that our condition has improved financially we are thinking of getting her treated properly, hence I was just wondering if you anyone of you can refer some reliable and affordable place where we can take her there. And we are from Delhi and won' t mind taking her to other places in need be for the betterment of her life. Thanks!

My child had a problem of cleft lip and cleft palate. I am basicaly from Gujarat. I had done the first operation of the lip surgery in the month of 3 and the second surgery of the palate in the month of 9. By the grace of god, there was no need for my child to go to the speech therapist. We were constantly taking to him. And if his words were not clear we would ask him to repeat the words till we think he speaks that word clear. He is currently in Jr. Kg. We had a word about his speech with his teacher if she understands his speech. She said she had no problem in understanding his speech. I am an working women and i could not spend more time with my child. My mother, father, sister in law and brother stays in the same country and they helped me lot to cope up with my child.

Hello Devika,
While searching on net, I come across your message. Actually this is not answering your question but just curious as how the treatment goes in India. I am currently in USA and my baby has cleft soft palate too. She is just 7 weeks old and doctor has suggested us to get the surgery done at 12 months of her age. But then, here it always gets treated with the cleft palate team.
I am planning to send my baby back to India for few months and your comments on this situation will be greatly aapreciated.

Thanks

My daughter's surgery was done in Mumbai at 5.5 months. That's the only surgery advised. I visited US on a short term assignment and am to leave on Sunday 27th. If you could let me know your mail ID I will keep in touch.

Speak to your doctor regarding the long distance travel since your baby is just a little over 2 months.

And as per the therapists here my daughter doesn't require any therapy.
That silences my concerns. However, would take a second opinion in Bangalore.

Good Luck

Speech/language delay - 2.3 yr old boy
Hello Everyone

Our 28 months old boy is not speaking simple 2 or 3 word sentences yet. He speaks a few words such as mama, papa, aunty etc but definitely not more than 10. Also, he doesn't understand slightly longer sentences, even when we speak slowly and enact it such as "we'll go out after we eat". Otherwise, he appears perfectly normal. Hints for Nursing
