I was bored this afternoon and thought I would call and see if they had my results for the glucose test and they did and I was told that it was normal. My blood glucose level, however, was 140 and although the nurse said that since it wasn't above 140, my level is considered normal, I am not too happy with the result cause I am right on the line.
It turns out that I also have some anaemia. So I need to increase my iron intake and was advised to take my prenatal vitamin with some orange juice for better absorbtion.
They also did a drug test apparently and I passed that test.... now that was a tremendous relief..... :)
Good luck to everyone waiting for their results...

Avi replied. Thanks a lot Simmi, Ritu and Suma. I appreciate all your wishes a lot.
Ritu, I am sure going through the test in the 30th week will be just fine. I am also sure everything will be just fine. Good luck. I am glad your mom has her visa to visit you..You have lots of fun with her... :)
Like you guys said,I will have to keep track of what I eat in terms of thier Iron content.
Thanks Again

Suma replied. Hi! Avi! Congrats on passing ur GT test. Take care of the iron also. Try to take more iron rich foods. otherwise ask the doctor for iron supplements.
Good Luck!!

Ritu replied. Hi Avi,
Congrats on clearing the GT Test. Don't worry about the readings as long as the nurse says it is fine. Please do take the necessary precautions regarding iron.
Yes, I am in Australia. I hope GT at 30 weeks is okay. Mom's now coming in the middle of next week as her VISA came in too late.
Thanks for uploading the list on yahoo briefcase. I will update it later if I get better inputs.
Take Care and enjoy yourself

Simmi replied. Congrulations Avi for clearing ur test. Don't worry about being on the border line, I'm sure all will be in control. And as for being Anaemic, well Asians have a tendency for it, so till the time you take ur iron tabs, greens and juices, I'm sure you will be back on track real soon.
Good luck to all those whose GTT is due or results are due.
Nikita replied. Hi everyone,
Congratulations to all those who cleared their GTT and all the best to everyone who still have to do it. Mine is scheduled for 10th Sept.
Regarding the iron rich food, list provided by Avi is great, it includes almost everything. But one thing i would like to add is that any kind of liver should be consumed in moderation as they have potentially high levels of chemical contamination.
Thought I should just share this little information with all u guys.
Take care all of u
Radhika replied. Hey everybody!! Congratulations on clearing the GTT. Good luck on increasing the iron intake as well. Try and avoid calcium with iron and th eabsorption will be much better. Another great source of iron is watermelon.
Good luck with everything.

Avi replied. Hey Guys, Congrats Vandana and Vindhya on getting over the GT bump.....
and thanks for all the wishes.
Vandana, you must be really relieved since it took you two extra days to find out.... thats so great.... :)
Vindhya, M is right - lot of spinach will surely help, also kidney beans have a lot of iron. Here is the result of some initial research I did on easily absorbable iron rich foods (what in heavens name is bulgar, Venison, Brewer's yeast and Blackstrap molasses......never heard of em'...
:)):
This list contain iron-rich foods from more absorbable to less:
I was planning on increasing my lentils (more dhal) and also my spinach (soup like)...My prenatal vitamins has a lot of iron in it, so I will try following the doc advise about having it with orange juice to increase the absorbtion rate/process.
The drug test is pretty routine here (becoz of all of em' crack mamas out there) I think, cause they take your urine sample along with the blood when you go for your glucose test.
I had no idea they were gonna do it until the advise nurse told me that they did...
No crack or cocaine in my system.. :)I remember signing a waiver for the test to be done when I went for my first prenatal orientation. They must have done it for you too I am sure.
You guys take care and keep in touch....
Vindhya replied. Hi Avi,
I just mentioned this in the other post, they found out that I was aneamic too. Are you planning to increase your iron intake through food? Any ideas on iron-rich recipes.
Congrats on passing your glucose test. My level was on the low side, it was 98.
What is drug test? My doctor hasn't recommended this one.

Vandana replied. Hi Avi
Thats good news. I got my results today too, the lab delayed it by 2 days, adding to my anxiety, but it is normal. What a relief! You are within the limit so dont worry and enjoy the remaining time now!

Thanks RAdhika. From your conversation with Priya, I gather that you are dealing well with the changes you've had to made in your diet. Good job....
I did talk to my doc about the postion of the baby and she said that at this stage of our pregnancy there is a a lot of space inside and the baby still has room to move around. So, dont worry about his/her position yet..
TAke care...

Thanks for the list of iron rich food, very helpful. The recipe is handy too but with me off Spinach, it will be hard work to eat some!! I am a vegetarian, so that don't help neither.
Hoping for the best. Anyways, let's all have a feast of iron rich food and enjoy!

Name: Avi Subject: a recipe from a bad cook
Hey Vindhya, first let me make it clear that I am a very very bad cook......
now, what I do when it comes to making the soup is:
In skillet,
1.saute some onion in a small amount of oil until, add some ginger, garlic, continue frying
2.I chop up half of the spinach and grind the rest of the spinach
3.I Add the chopped spinach, red chilli powder(I like it to be a bit spicy too) and fry till it smells and tastes like you want it to
4.Add the ground spinach and fry for a few more minutes
5.Now, I sometimes add some cooked lentils to make it a bit thick (it turns out like spinach dhal and I eat it with Roti too)and at other times I add sliced carrots and green/red peppers and mushrooms to add extra water.
6. I add vegetable broth (a can) sometimes and just water at other times. The amount of water/broth depends on how liquidy you want it.....
7. I also add cilantro (makes it taste very nice indeed) and let boil.
8. when want to eat it with Roti, I add lime juice and tadka...
Again, my cooking abilities suck big time...so I am sure others have better and tastier suggestions than I.....
My suggestion would be to just be creative and go bonkers with it and see how it turns out.........

Hi M & Avi,
Thanks for all the information. I do take wheat germ everyday and planning to take blackstrap molasses from tomorrow. I also eat Total cereal that is fortified with 100% iron. But, still not convinced. I just need an excuse to think I am not eating well.
As for prenatal vitamins, they have given instructions that I should take it with Orange juice, but wasn't following it. I'll try to follow it from today.
Do your guys have a good spinach soup recipe? Mine is not that tasty.

Hey Avi,Vandana and Vindhya,
Congrats on clearing the glucose test. Avi you are within the normal range so don't worry!
Vindhya, spinach is supposed to have a lot of iron. Try taking spinach soup or alu palak or spinach in some form frequently. Generally the darker the color is of fruits/veggies/beans the more the iron content.
Good luck. And don't worry.
