Feeding:Feeding problem - need advice

My daughter is 6 months old and we have been feeding her while she sleeps since she resist the bottle if she is awake. This has been going on for the past 4 months and somehow our we got adjusted to that eventhough it is a pain. But offlate she has started a new habit - while sleeping she takes an ounce and then she puts her thumb and sometimes she won't even open her mouth. Since i am working it is getting very difficult. Because of this problem my mother-in-law who has come from India to take care of her is finding it more difficult and everyday her feeding is getting missed and by the time i go home she would have hardly drank 8 to 9 ounces. So i need to wake up during the night and feed her to atleast hit the target of 20 ounces for that day. And i sleep only for 4 hours. And i am really tired and stressed out. I even checked with the pediatrician. Nothing really has helped so far. The pediatrician has asked me to introduce a sippy cup. I tried it the other day and she just bites it and play with it and half of the milk gets wasted. Can someone who is training their babies to accept sippy cup, please give me some tips. If someone has any tips on special kids of nipples also please advice. Gerber NUK nipples doesn't help.

We had problems with our 7 month for a while also. She is using a sippy cup/bottle now. As far as the sippy cup goes, she would just bite on it at first and then one day she just started drinking from it. You just have to be patient and let her figure it out. As far as the bottle, there may be too much air and it's too difficult for her to feed so she won't even try. My daughter had that problem and so we bought the playtex bottles the have the liners that you can push the air out of. They may help her. You may want to try solids with her and just keep trying to get her to use a sippy cup. I know several kids who never even used a bottle, so it is possible. Hope this helps.

we too used to feed her when she is asleep and slowly we stopped doing it. now only when she is awake she is fed and that too only when she asks for it. demand feeding is always better. my daughter too puts her thumb into her mouth and when you take it out she just screams. when she is hungry she does take her thumb out and drink. see if you feed her well through the night, i think there are less chances she will finish her bottle during the day. have you started solids? it may interest her a bit. we use avent bottles as it reduces the air intake. sleep well and feed her only when she asks for it in the night too. let her sleep well in the night and it helps in longer run. hope this helps. bye.

hi ! i know what u're going thru as i went thru the same myself. i struggled for good 2-3 months. anyhow, what u can try is - let her feel really hungry and then offer the bottle. let her cry for a while. i know it sounds really selfish and cruel but u have to really make her feel hungry and then she will eventually give in. believe me - that's how my daughter gave in. and another thing u can try is to give the bottle to her thru somone else. like your husband. and u move out of sight. so keep trying and be patient. persistence is the only key to work with children. my daughter is now 13 months and i still have problems with her. so one has to keep trying. i wish children came with instructions. but they don't ! right !! so keep your chin up and keep trying ! all the best to u !
