Adoption: indian adoption
2003-05-19
Name: Tim

My wife and I are both American early 30's married 6.5 years. We have tried everything to have children with no results. My sister in law is from India. Is there any chance we could adopt an Indian child?? Everything I read seems to tell me no. We have a loving family and would love an addition to it. Any reply would be appreciated.

Tim you don't say where you are but I would highly recommend Holt International if you are in the U.S. The orphanages they work with in India take very good care of the children. Check out the Holt website!

you can't adopt a child directly from a family. I'm in the middle of adopting a child from India. The agency we work with (Children's Home Society of Minnesota) has informed us that adoption has to go through an agency or some formal/legal process. We know this becasue my father-in-law knew an indian family in india whose children were left with their aunt/uncle because their parents died and suggested we adopt them. But we can't. Always talk to a lawyer specialing in adoption procedures before pursuing anything because these kids available could be available only through black market or something bad. OKay?

tim,
you can adopt an indian child but only through a CARA approved adoption agency in the U.S. Please don't enter into private transactions with anyone as you will not be able to bring your child home unless you go through appropriate channels.

Good luck.

Dear Vibha,
I just registered today and saw your message to Tim. We are staying in Abudhabi since past 9 yrs. We are married 17yrs back and lost one child 9 yrs back. Later did not have children. We were planning to adopt a girl baby from A Hindu family. But, were not lucky till now. So, can you please give me more details of the family and i would love to adopt their youngest one if it suits everyone. Please reply.

Hi,
Since you know this family, couldn't you help them out financially so that their family can stay together? I have no idea what your financial situation is and whether you live in India or America but american money goes a LONG WAY in india. Think about it. If you have money to spare, adopt the family. Help them out.:)

Surabhi,

PLEASE stop your friend who is "giving away" one of her 3 daughters! The children have been living together with their sisters and their parents for over 1 year, and to give away one of them will cause them a lot of pain and trauma.

Hello Tim,
It is good to read about your good thoughts. I don't see any reason why you cannot adopt an indian child. By adopting any child you would be giving a family to that poor unfortunate child. I guess you can search for some adoption agencies in India and proceed.
All the best to you both.
