Hi,

My son' s paed said that the more you pull out the thumb the more the child will think that it is something special. Let him be and the child will eventually wean off the habit.

Do not scold or even react to the child. They learn from their environment.

It worked for my lil one.

Hope this helps for you.

Regards,
Shilpa

Hi Swetha,

Dont lose heart, it is only normal for some babies to do that. Drs have foen babies doing that in the womb as well. So there isnt any reason for you to be embarassed. He is 8 mos not 8 years sucking his thumb.

I have an 8 mo daughter who likes to put her fingers in her mouth and from the beginning we used to keep pulling it out. But its not as bad as your case. However, my dr. said thats because she is teething. I hate the pacifiers and never gave it to her.. but i remember in one of the appts my dr had suggested giving her the pacifier only if she starts sucking her thumb. His theory was you can take away the pacifier but not the thumb and you wont be asked many questions, since it is considered a norm for babies to have a pacifier. You may want to try that.

Good Luck
Poonam
