I am very sorry for troubling you ..its very nice of u that inspite of suffering so much you take time to reply on this board ..that s really nice of you …

I think u are only suitable person around me who can answer this question n clarify my doubt ….
one question which i always wanted to ask u if u come back on this board...which no one has ever discussed on this board also...
about ghooti...and observing 40 days strict ruules about diet, massage, tying stomach with sare ...etc
giving bal ghooti to babies is very popular ...but i never gave to my baby...coz acc to me . whatever i hv learnt by observing others n reading books in my opinion its not necessary and i feel for 6 months babies should be only bf for 6 months...and nothing else
bal ghooti is basically nothing but few jadibootis u get in local ayurvedic shops or nowadays you get readymade too like dabur janam ghooti.....which u can gv to ur babies..for various digestion prob ...n for better health....
in my family infact we start ghooti from the time we come home from hospital...
personally i think its not hygenic too...i don’t know I can be wrong also….

what can u say about that?

i have a new neighbor in my building she just deliverd a baby thru caesarian 3 weeks b4..she doesnt gv any massage to baby or for self ...i wish u cud come n see her..i think after delivery she looks gorgeous...n her baby is extremely active n alert for her age ...
her stomach is back to normal in 3 weeks she doeesnt even tie it for 40 days ( that we observe after delivery) only thing she says we concentrate on diet ...nothing else..she is form orissa...i am shocked to see her n her baby...touchwood may god gv her more strenght n better health...but she looks better than me and i have strictly observed whatever i was told to do for 40 days after delivery
any comments on this...2 things ...about janam ghoti n observing strict 40 days after delivery taking massages for self baby ...eating methi ladoos...loads of pure ghee...covering ur self all the time...wearing slippers all the time. etc etc....?

after massage n bath for 40 days u gv dhuri to baby n mother...u burn wawa...n take that smoke...
i dont what it is calledin english..my daughter got rashes..n we had to stop...she got red spots on her body...i had taken her 4 vaccine when her ped saw that he shouted at me ..n told me to stop dhuri...at once...he had said babies lungs get filled with smoke..its dangerous...but all my life i have seen post delivery in my family we have been giving massage, dhuri to mother n babies...
pls can u throw some light on this issue as I a m really confused...my mil on the other side refuses to accept new ideas...n i am too confused..
pls help...

thanks 4 ur reply...i too observed 40 days strictly...whatever i was asked to do i did everything...infact my mil made me continue all those things after 40 days till i completed 3 months about diet n everything ...massage for my baby i stopped from 6 months but do it sometimes ....
i never had prob of colic with my baby coz of the diet i followed ...
but only thing i am confused ..this is something we have been doing from ages ...i too believe in this 6 weeks rest n massage...
that is why i mentioned about t my new
neighbor ..n its not only her doc too nowadays advice against massages ..they say it doesn’t make any diff...
i have come across few collogues too who have not followed all these things...
just for my satisfaction i wanted to take others opinion...
i hope hetal replies to me

Hi Gauri,
Hetal would be able to answer you better, but seeing your posts, I couldn' t help putting in a few of my views.
we are from Kerala, and we too observe 6 weeks of strict care, including massage to the lady, and eating all kinds of ayurvedic medicines and potions. Also we eat lot of ghee food and mutton soup and all that. These are all done since delivery is considered to be the biggest event in a body and is supposed to have battered your body inside out..So to bring the body back to normal shape we do all this..
Don' t know how much is true, but let me tell you my personal experience..I had back pain after delevery and I strongly believe the massage and hot bath helped me to get rid of that..Also the ayurvedic medicines did increase my milk supply and my daughter did not have any illness in the first few months and just one fever in her whole 1 year life. Don' t know if all this is linked to the post delivery care.
I used to wear the cloth abdominal belt for 6 weeks till I returned to office..Here in US, hospitals give abdominal belt to c-section patients, at least that is what the nurse told me when I asked for an abdominal belt.
Also I regularly body massaged my daughter with coconut oil till 1 year old..don' t know if it did any good, it certainly didn' t do anything bad..
Regarding Janam Ghutti, I don' t remember exactly, but there is some chemical in it ' cos of which it is not much used in India also now..but there is another gripe water (bonacide, I think, I can confirm this) which I gave her when I felt she was gassy.. She is two years now and doing great, so I can say this confidently..
not sure of the ritual of burning wawa..Personally I don' t think inhaling smoke in large proportions is good, specially since your baby showed rashes..
hope it helps ease your worry a little..Good luck and take care. And yes I gained more weight post pregnancy in those 6 weeks, but after a year, I am now back to pre-pregnancy weight :)
Deepthi.
