My 3 year old is a VERY fussy eater. She is just not interested in eating anything!
Ive tried telling her stories, threatening her. ive got her checked for worms,
and other problems as suggested by her doc. Nothing seems to be worng and nothing
works! Im worried because shes very thin and im afraid her diet will cause
deficiences leading to bigger problems. Can anyone suggest ways to make her eat?

hema replied. I have tried a lot of ways to make my son eat. sometimes I make 4-5 types of dishes one after another on a single day, with a intention to make him eat something. This continued for few months. Now I have found that he like eggs, curd, ghee rice, and anything which has a different name, colour or shape. so, I invent names and try new items everyday. For both my sons, I feed milk only after they have slept, otherwise, both refuse to drink anything. Both go on hunger strike !
asha replied. dear gayatri,
i think u let her eat herrself. that way she will feel independent nd she will think as an adult. in the beginning she might eat less and make a lot of mess. but u sit with her and show her how to eat try to creat competetive atmosphere and tell herr to be first. one more thing. tell her to prepree her thali , her food the way she wants then slowly i think she will eat everything. but donot force her to eat everything start from a bite and then increase.
i hope she will change. and do let me know
Poomina replied. There is probably nothing medically wrong with your daughter, she is probably just a fussy eater. My son is also a fussy eater, he is 2 years old. His doctor told us that as long as he is eating 1 good meal a day, then he will be just fine. Is your daughter gaining weight? If she is gaining weight, that is good. Some of the things that I have found with my son is finding a few foods that he does like and trying with those foods. He likes fruits and veggies, but will not eat meat. I fill a small bowl with foods such as grapes or apple slices or another food that he likes and let him sit on the floor with this bowl and watch TV. He gets so into his show that he will start to slowly eat. I also let him sit up on the kitchen counter while I am in the kitchen washing the dishes; he can sit up there and snack on some veggies or other foods while I am right there with him. I also let him look in the fridge and pick out what he would like to eat. Sometimes it is a pickle or an egg, sometimes just a glass of milk. I figure whatever he eats is better than nothing. Hope this has helped.

GAYATHRI RAMESH replied. My daughter is going to be 4 this february 14th. The thing she likes very much is to play for the whole day with out eating anything. Right from the begining of her child hood she is a very fussy eater. she takes all the food. I give her every thing and she eats, but it will take one whole hour to finish the food. So in a day i spend 3 to 4 hours only for feeding her food. This gives me a lot of stress. she wants to play for 24 hours. she also doesnt want of sleep at all. she is over active and even though i am very proud of her activeness, some times i feel very restless and tired. She is also very inteligent and she grasp what ever i teach her, and she repeats it with out a single mistake. My problem is, i want to make her eat her food properly, and sleep properly.
kindly advice.
caroline replied. dear gayatri, hi! I have a two yr old son & used to face the same problem. just let your daughter be. make meal times a family affair. lay a plate for her too. as you serve for yourself serve for her too. eat together it makes the child feel great. make meal time an activity fo her not an ordeal. bye & all the best!
nirmala balaji replied. I Have asimple solution. isit next to her, tell her that her class teacher phoned up to say that she was brilliant in the class and praised her. add a few jokes about school pranks. eating should not be aproblem!
Mamata replied. My daughter is 2.33 years old and has the same problem as Gayatri has. She prefers to drink milk at any time she is offered to eat mroning / afternoon / night. She does not eat rice. Compounded with this is her non-stop cough and cold which oftern brings out what she has eaten sometimes after lot of crying while being forced to eat she vomits. I am a working woman and hence she is being fed/looked after by old mother who can not control her tension/temper at this age.
My daughter has not put on weight for the last six months and also her height increase is marginal. Otherwise she is very active and maughty. I am really confused and worried. I donot know whether to leave my job
she may not need me very much once she grows up a bit. The family doctor/paediatricians say that there is nothing wrong with her. But my major concern is her not gaining weight. What should I do

Dear Mamata,
Please dont worry about your child. As long as she is active it is opk. Dont force her to eat. Children tend to eat something or the other whenever they are hungry. But as long as she is active you need not worry
