5 Great Ways to Improve Attention Span of Your Child

Is your child unable to concentrate properly on studies or other activities? Here are 5 great ways which you can follow to improve attention span of your child.

In today’s fast life the attention span of kids is ever decreasing. They are unable to concentrate on anything for more than a few seconds. Their minds tend to wander after a few seconds of attention. This hinders them in their study life. They cannot pay attention in classes after a little while. They are unable to sit down and do their homework. Nothing seems good enough to keep them concentrated. This eventually leads to lack of concentration before exams and bad grades.

It is important that kids learn how to concentrate. Short attention span will put them in trouble as they grow up. In higher studies and in their working life, they will fall back because of this short attention span. There are various methods by which you can improve the attention span of your child. Some have been listed below.

1. Exercise

Physical exercise to improve attention might sound absurd but it has been proven to be effective. Science say there is a link between the body and mind. Physical activity can help to improve attention span of kids.

Parents are advised to engage their kids in physical activities like some exercises, playing a sport, etc. it has also been found that kids who do not do any physical activity have shorter attention span than kids who do. The logic behind this is, during physical activities one is required to concentrate on their muscles, the activity they are doing and so forth. This increases the attention capacity of the brain. When the kid sits down to study their brain retains this ability of having longer attention span.

2. Meals

It is a proven fact that many types of food help in increasing the attention span of children. Mothers should make it a point to include these foods in the diet of their kids to aid in their child’s brain’s attention capacities. It is not healthy to give your kids something like granola or some candy treats for breakfast. Include eggs, cereal and milk in their breakfast. It keeps them from dozing off in class and they pay better attention.

If their brains are active they will pay better attention. Food like fish, meat, eggs and curd give energy to the brain and helps it to stay active.

3. Reduce Television Time

Television is one of the reasons kids have low attention spans. The pictures in the television move too fast and this conditions their brains. Kids become hyperactive and they are not able to sit still and concentrate on something for long. Real life seems too slow for their television conditioned brains. This severely affects their studies. Make it a point that they switch off their electronic devices before going to sleep.

4. Mental Puzzles

Mental puzzles are helpful to increase a child’s concentration. It makes them sit and think. Mental puzzles are fun and kids actually love doing them. The more time they spend doing mental puzzles the more their attention span increases. It is important that their brains learn to concentrate on certain things. Once that is achieved, their brains will be conditioned to concentrate on anything that is put before it.

5. Sleep

Sleep is one of the main requirements of the brain. A tired and sleep lacking brain will never be able to concentrate on anything at all. If kids do not get enough sleep at night, they will doze off and not concentrate in class. Make sure that your child gets at least eight hours of sleep a day.

It is important that you teach your child to concentrate from a young age. If their attention span shortens in their childhood, they would not be able to lengthen it when they grow up. As parents it is your responsibility to employ the given methods.
