Week 2: Your Womb is Getting Ready

In 2nd week of pregnancy, you have still not conceived. Read on to know what happens in the 2nd week of pregnancy and what you should do to boost your fertility.

While you may be excited to spread the news about your pregnancy, you probably need to wait a little further till you actually conceive. In this week, there are some very complex processes going on in your reproductive organs and brain. Be prepared for the series of events that are about to begin in the next few days.

The womb is getting itself ready to welcome the embryo and as the lining thickens, the mucus in the cervix becomes thinner to enable the sperm to swim through it easily.  It is very possible that you may have ovulated approximately on the last day of this week or the beginning of the next.

Ovulation occurs when the follicle ruptures and releases an egg or ovum, which is approximately 0.13 mm in size. This egg travels up the fallopian tube and survives for about 24 hours. This is your highly fertile period. If the egg is not fertilized within this time, it passes out the next time you menstruate, which fortunately did not happen in your case.

What Happens in the 2nd Week of Pregnancy?

Your egg is still ripening in the 2nd week. You shall start ovulating this week and you can expect the same events that you experienced while ovulating last month.

What About Your Baby?

Your doctor shall however count this as your 2nd week of pregnancy for all the practical reasons. This shall be the last week when you shall be alone. Around next week, your egg shall fertilize and a new life shall start developing inside you. A small embryo will develop that will grow and mature in the coming weeks.

What You Should Do this Week?

While it is surely the time for you to relax and enjoy, there are some duties that you cannot underestimate at any point during your pregnancy. Take a look at what you can do to ensure a healthy and happy pregnancy.

Follow a Healthy Lifestyle

Apart from choosing your doctor, who shall be there with you all through your pregnancy, you must also take a second look at your lifestyle, eating habits, exercise and sleep patterns. If necessary, you need to alter them to ensure proper growth and development of the new life inside you.

Quit Smoking and Drinking Alcohol

If you are into smoking or drinking alcohol, it is time to say good bye to them for the sake of your baby's good health. If the caffeine intake in your diet is too high, you need to cut back on some of them. Get in touch with a dietician if possible to get a healthy diet plan for you and your baby.

Avoid Empty Calories

While it is important that you increase your calorie intakes in pregnancy, the quality does matter. Do not plan to add up unnecessary calories with burgers and pizzas. These actually will do more harm than good to both of you. You can add calories to your diet with vegetables, fruits and a low fat diet comprising of grains.

Eat Healthy

Since this is the time when you can pamper yourself and not bother much about your curves, you can try some healthy recipes looking into the cookbooks. There are pregnancy cookbooks available that shall offer some lip smacking recipes that you can try.

A healthy eating habit can actually help ward off most of the complications associated with pregnancy such as morning sickness, fatigue or cravings. Since you are in your first trimester, you need to be extra careful about what you eat. This is said to be one of the most vulnerable stages of pregnancy.

Take Vitamin Supplement on Time

You must not forget the prenatal vitamin and folic acid supplements that your doctor has suggested. Food alone cannot satisfy the vitamin requirement of your body for aiding healthy growth and development of baby. Therefore, you must take vitamin supplements as prescribed by your obstetrician.

It is also the time when you can bid goodbye to your periods for the next 9 months. Your uterus is now producing endometrial in large amounts to offer a healthy environment to the baby developing inside you.

You must not worry, if you have not conceived in the first month. You must continue trying. With time you shall be well aware of your cycles and the time when you are the most fertile. You have only 20% chance to get pregnant every month and you might take around 12 months to conceive. Good luck to you!
