Acidity occurs when you eat spicy food or overeat. It is caused due to excess secretion of acids in the gastric glands of the stomach. When the secretion is more, the person feels heartburn which gets triggered by spicy food. Most often people reach out for antacid tablets or syrups, which might have some side effects.

Usually acidity occurs because of overeating, irregular eating habits, lack of exercise, stress, or drinking alcohol frequently. Here are some natural remedies that can not only help you get comforted, but also save you from any side effect.

Butter milk

This is one of the simple remedies for acidity.
  • Grind one teaspoon of fenugreek seeds by adding little water to it. Add this paste to a glass of buttermilk and drink.

  • Take a cup of buttermilk and add one tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice to it. Wait for five minutes and then drink it.

  • You can drink buttermilk as much as you want. Add coriander leaf juice or black pepper powder for taste.
Cold Milk

Chilled or cold milk will give you immediate relief from the discomfort of acidity. It is advised to sip it slowly instead of drinking it. Avoid adding sugar or anything for taste to it. You can add pure ghee to it so that it gets more effective.

Basil Leaves

Basil leaves have medicinal properties that can help you get relief from gas, acidity and heartburn almost immediately.
  • You can chew the basil leaves as soon as you see the first sign of acidity.

  • Add 2 or 3 basil leaves to water and bring it to boil. Add tea and honey to it and sip it. Avoid adding milk. You can have this drink frequently until you find some relief.

  • If you suffer from acidity often, you can keep dried and crushed basil leaves with you so that whenever you feel the discomfort, you can have it with water or tea to get instant relief.
Bananas

Bananas bring great relief when you have an eruption of acidity. Try to eat overripe bananas to have it more effective and for better results.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon has anti-viral properties and healing abilities that can help you get rid of acidity. Just add half teaspoon of cinnamon powder to a cup of water and bring it to boil. Drink this tea for three to four times a day. You can even add cinnamon powdered to your daily cup of tea, soup or salad to get benefited from its medicinal properties.

Cloves

Cloves also help alleviate acidity. Just chew few cloves and let the juices enter your system. If you crush and have equal amounts of powdered cinnamon and cloves, it will not only help you get relief from acidity, but also freshen up your breath.

Jaggery

Jaggery has high amount of potassium that brings relief in acidity. If you suffer from acidity often, you simply need to suck on a small piece of jaggery after every meal. The only thing is that people suffering from diabetes cannot take this because it is made of sugar.
