my son got tonsillitis whilst on holiday in spain. the doctor over there prescribed antibiotics and pure apple juice. i wasn't too certain about the apple juice but it seemed to aid my son's recovery. now everytime he gets tonsillitis i head straight for the shops to buy some apple juice. it really seems to work (as well as tasting really nice). has any one else ever tried fruit jucies as an additional cure for tonsillitis??

i have tonsilitis then. to prevent it, i use 1 tablespoon of rock salt in a cup of luke warm water and gargle it everytime i go to bed. the result was amazing. no throat infections upto now. and it gives me a clean and relax breathing no dry feeling on the throat. the reason why a tonsilitis occur again and again even thou you take antibiotic is that when the antibiotic didn't kill the bacteria in one go the bacteria will produce an antibody that will cause the antibiotic useless when taken again. if your tonsilitis is acute i suggest you have them operated. hope this helps.

i used to get tonsillitis once a year, now i dont get it too often unless there is a really bad cold going around. what i did was get my own homeotherapist to sort me out. she went through loads of little details befroe we found the exact cure for me. this cure works like a dream if i feel my tonsils are growing, a couple of days and im clear. you have to go to a homeotherapist to get the remedy because its only from them you can get the stronger remedys. also, if iam too busy to get to my homeopath straight away and my tonsils havent reached infection yet i use elixer of echinacea. it works wonders on keeping the infection away. the key is to find what suits you and catch it early, otherwise you'll be two weeks in bed....

well...i often get tonsillitis...during my pedia class, we were taught that tonsillectomy is only recommended if u happen to acquire it 3-4 times in 12 months...but still, consult ur pediatrician...also, i used augmentin and azithromycin as meds for tonsillitis...but since they're antibiotics, u gotta finish the whole course of the meds and not stop it when the inflam is gone...bacteria will build resistance against those antibacs if u do that...hope this helps...

i had tonsilitis about a month ago. it didn't hurt or make my voice sound any different.it wasn't too much of an inconvienence. now i have it again, but so much worse. it hurts to talk, breathe, swallow food or water. it even hurts to swallow my own spit. i get about 2 hours of sleep now because of the pain. each tonsil is the size of a golfball. you can even tell by looking at my neck because they stick out. it doesn't show signs of getting better, even though i'm taking medicine for it. i started to get it 5 days ago. when is going to ever go away. should i worry about it.

a couple of the messages on this page were offensive. but to set the record straight. rarely is tonsillitis fatal, yes it does cause a dry cough, yes you should stop smoking and homeopathy will not bring about a complete cure. but tonsillitis can mask other serious diseases and should always be checked out by a doctor

tonsillectomy (cut off) is only recommended in extreme cases of tonsillitis. it is advised for people under 25, cause as you get older, the hemorahgining the throat gets hader to heal.@unless there are no other options (cancer or chronic) antibiotics should do it. make sure though you have to take them as prescribed (usually up to 1 week) or else the virus or bacteria will get immuned to the antibiotics; and you will get recurrence tonsillitis that might need more drastic measures.

what is tonsillitis?tonsillitis (ton-sil-lie-tiss) is an inflammation of the tonsils caused by an infection. in tonsillitis, the tonsils are enlarged, red, and often coated (either partly or entirely) by a substance that is yellow, gray, or white. tonsillitis usually occurs as part of a pharyngitis (throat infection). tonsilitis usually begins with sudden sore throat and painful swallowing. sometimes, tonsillitis reoccurs, and may cause difficulty breathing. if this occurs, your doctor may recommend taking them out. this procedure of removing tonsils from the throat is called a tonsillectomy.what are tonsils?the tonsils are fleshy clusters of tissue that lie in bands on both sides of the back of the throat, above and behind the tongue. the tonsils' major function is to catch incoming germs before the germs cause infections in the throat, mouth, or sinuses. tonsils contain infection-fighting cells and antibodies that stop the spread of the germs further into the body.if the tonsils are taken out, the individual will not suffer from more infections than they did when they had their tonsils. there are other tissues in the body that will produce antibodies to fight infection.what are the symptoms? each person with tonsillitis may not experience all of the symptoms. some of the major symptoms are: a very sore throat, fever, redder-than-normal tonsils, chills, a yellow or white coating on the tonsils, a funny-sounding voice, swollen glands in the neck, and bad breath.how is tonsillitis diagnosed?tonsillitis can be diagnosed by performing a rapid strep test, also called a throat culture. to perform the throat culture, the doctor will use a long cotton swab to swipe off some of the stuff on the surface of the back of your throat. the doctor will then test the "stuff" on the cotton swab. this test will determine whether you have tonsillitis and whether it is caused by a bacteria or a virus. is tonsillitis contagious?yes. tonsillitis usually spreads from person to person by contact with the throat or nasal fluids of someone who is already infected. how is tonsillitis treated?treatment for tonsillitis depends on whether it was caused by a virus or bacteria. if the tonsillitis was caused by strep bacteria (streptococci), the doctor will prescribe antibiotics. if the tonsillitis was caused by a virus, your body will fight off the infection on its own. however, medication can be prescribed to alleviate the symptoms. how long does tonsillitis last?if tonsillitis is caused by bacteria, with antibiotic treatment, the illness is usually cured within 1 week. however, it may take several weeks for the tonsils and swollen glands to return to normal size. when tonsillitis is caused by viruses, the length of illness depends on which virus is involved. usually, people are almost completely recovered within 1 week.

for the past few days i have had a sore throat, but 2 days ago when i was at school i felt really tired and i coudnt swallow cause it hurt too much. i went home told my parents and they both said that i had tonsillitis so the next day i went to the doctor to confirm it. he said it looks to be tonsillitis but it also could be a virus such as glandular fever. i hope it isnt glandular fever because one of my really good friends had it and she didnt come to school for weeks. i was just wondering how long does tonsillitis last for?
