Due Date Club July 2008:Anaemic - help!!

Hi

I am 22 weeks pregnant.THis is our first baby. During my last checkup the doctor said growth of baby is good and everything is fine. But she did a haemoglobin level check and the level has dropped to 9.0 from 10.2 a month earlier.
I was taking iron supplements but they have not helped. She has now changed the supplement.

Can anyone tell me if they have faced a similar issue and also what foods would help in increasing iron content? We are vegetarians.

Would be glad for any help in this .

Priya

Hi priya,

I am 22 weeks pregnant too, my haemoglobin level was 9.5 intially in my first three months then increased to 10.5 after taking vitamins and now dropped again to 10.2 ,well vitamins do help but what you need to include is vitamin C in your diet to absorb iron ,you can take oranges, maybe squeeze some lemon juice on your salad as it helps..I also have high blood sugar so have been put on 2000 calorie diet..i met with a dietician today and she informed me all the above..Hope it helps.....bye

Hey Priya..
mine is same case..
m in 21st week..
hemoglobin jst 9.00 from almost 11.
1] U can have palak+ tomato soup. Just boil both blend, add jst salt pepper n boil little.
Add lemon whn u haveit. u can also add carrots in boiling.
2] U can have somethin with vitamin c b4 or jst after having ur iron supplements.
Also dont have almonds jst b4 or after tea / coffee. Try havin almonds with fruits for better absorption of all irn n nutrients.

Hope this helps.

My worry is inspite my hemoglobbin goin down... i m putting on 22 much weight.. was 64 whn in 1st week now m 69.. which gynac says is too much gain.

Lets no about ur self..

TC

Hi

Thanks for the suggestions. I feel better now :).
Have started taking Vit C foods with iron rich food at every meal. Hope the level increases with this.
Well my weight has not increased by much since I conceived - I was over the normal weight before maybe thats why. Doc says weight is under control for now.
