I only breast feed my daughter for 7 months. then she had formula mil;k and other solids. she is healthy with a good immune system. I think its the proper nutrition that matters most.

I think long term breastfeeding is not necessary as after 6 months, the baby is introduced to solids. Once the baby has outside food, his nutritional requirement get fulfilled.

Indeed there are advantages of long term breastfeeding for the baby but it can cause deficiency in the mother. calcium and iron reserves may get depleted.
