What Toddlers Should Eat

Does your toddler eat his food happily? Feeding toddlers is a daunting task for parents as they are very choosy. Toddlers are at growing stage and they need to develop healthy eating habits for proper growth and development. Read on to get interesting tips on feeding toddlers.

It is vital you take proper care and caution when you feed a toddler. Toddlers are often choosy. They have some rigid preferences and selection and you will find that at times they do not readily accept new food items. Till the toddler is one year old, you need to feed him small amount of food and once the child completes his first birthday, the growth is rapid.

You need to develop healthy eating habits in your toddler as soon as possible and researchers are of the opinion that actual eating habit develops right at this age. So, concentrate on increasing the intake of fruits and vegetables and minimize the intake of fried and fast food. This is the right time to introduce family food and style so that he gets used to this type of food and eating style.

Tips on What Should a Toddler Eat

Nutrition –

pay attention to giving at least one fully nutritious meal to your child once he is one year old. Before that you can feed him with high protein and carbohydrate food items. Remember, your toddler will not eat three full meals daily. You will have to feed him different types of foods so that he gets full nutrition by the end of the day. Usually before one year, you need to pay attention to food that is low in salt, sugar and fat content.

Fruits and Vegetables –

In addition to foods, you should pay attention to fruits and vegetables avoiding added salt and sugar. Add fruits during the later half of the morning or evening because you will find that toddlers eat readily and properly in breakfast.

Balanced Meal –

Prepare balanced meal and healthy snacks for your toddler. If you find that he dislikes milk during breakfast, you can give him other milk products like cheese, yogurt or something else that he likes to have. Pay more attention to the likings of your toddler and feed him accordingly. If your child likes the food he will be able to have a good quantity and the food will have positive impact on his health too.

Plan –

Work out a plan for your toddler so that you feed him with different types of food and also encourage him to take varieties of food as well. Start with simple and mashed food items. Try to steam the vegetables and pulses that you introduce. This will help you take utmost care of the diet and nutrition of your toddler.

Natural and Homemade Food –

Try to give your child natural and homemade food and avoid tinned and packaged food items as far as possible.

Problems

You might face problems and your toddler may refuse to eat a specific food item after sometime. Do not panic. It is obvious and quite natural. Just make some changes here and there. Also, do not add new food items every now and then. Let your child get accustomed to one type of taste.

Secondly, do not force your child to eat if he is not hungry or refuses to eat.

Make the servings small and avoid giving big servings.

Try to introduce oatmeal cereals as early as possible as they are very good and healthy to start a day with. Do not worry about how much your toddler should eat. Remember, every child is different and if the mental and physical growth of your child is normal, you need not worry about anything.

instead of colas and junk foods, parents should encourage healthy foods such as vegetables and fruits. Healthy eating from a young age promotes healthy habits in later stages also.
