The main concern of anxiety for many parents today is to protect their children from act of violence and abuse at school. In simple words, the parents as well as the school officials are alarmed about preventing children from becoming either victims or aggressors.
Children spend the most part of their day and year in school than anywhere else except their homes. They need a secure, positive and comfortable environment to learn and grow. Schools are considered as the safest place for children, yet it is important parents get assured that their children are taken care of there.

Child’s Safety in School

There are some ways in which parents can assure that their children are going to a school that is capable of providing a safer environment to help get valuable learning experience for kids. Take into account some important points so that you can make sure that your children have positive school experience.

Talk to Your Child Everyday

Make it a point that you talk to your child each day when he or she gets back from school. It is not just about what they studied at school, but also about everything and everyone they interacted with. It is possible that children will not open up immediately if they are having problem in school. You might have to ask them indirect questions.

Look Out for Warning Signs

If you see sudden drop in grades, loss of friends, torn clothing or anything else that alarms you, you should immediately find out what the matter is and take necessary steps to sort out the problem.

Teach Prevention Skills

Children are taught problem solving and communication skills which help them handle their emotions and also take care of themselves. They are also taught safe behaviours so that they participate in group activities without any difficulty.

Visit School during School Hours

Most of the schools would not allow you to meet your child during school hours, but you can visit there and talk to the principal or the teachers and get an idea about the actual environment of the school in which your child studies. You can also ask about the safety and security measures which the school is taking to ensure that children are safe.

Train Your Child to Not Talk to Strangers

Although you too must have had this warning when you were a child, but today this is extremely important. Along with this, you should also meet the teachers and the school staff so that you get acquainted with them in person.

Teach Your Child About Keeping Safe

Do not assume that your child knows the basic facts of safety and other risks. Let your child get correct information from you and not from questionable sources.

Work Cooperatively With School

This is very important because if you follow the discipline at school and let your child follow suite, you can avoid many adverse situations.

Teach Your Child Discipline at Home

Make sure your child knows to abide by the school rules and regulations and is disciplined at school.

Act Immediately When in Doubt

If you see any of the warning signs or you feel that your child is scared of something at school, do not wait for a problem to get out of control. Act in a timely manner.
Keeping in mind and taking the steps discussed above can help you keep your child safe in school. In addition, you should also keep an eye on your child’s activities, change in behaviour and check his bags daily.
