It is very common for kids to remain stressed during the exams; parents need to understand that it is time when the kids need their parents by their side always. Parents should not pass their own stress on their kids during this time; they should remain calm and composed and provide the mental support to the kids. Here are some tips discussed for parents how to prepare their kids mentally during their examinations.

Boost Confidence

It is the responsibility of the parents to make their kids feel confident before exams. Encourage your kids to keep on trying in their endeavours, let them feel that you trust their capability that they can win whatever the situations are.

Cite Good Examples

Try to remain composed and positive in front of your kids when they are feeling nervous. Show them how to remain positive even when under stress. Your kids will relate to your situations and try out your footsteps to reduce the stress and anxiety. Do not pressurise them to learn new chapters just before the exams, it will make matters worse.

Teach Positive Thinking

Whenever your kids feel like “I can’t do this”, sort of stuffs, divert their attention to something positive. Make them feel like “what if I try once more”. Teach them to have a positive outlook towards life and encourage them to try once more when they feel dejected.

Be Receptive to Your Child’s Feelings

During exam stress children want their parents to be by their side, they want their parents to understand how they are feeling. So whenever your child comes up to you for the mental support, be receptive and never turn a deaf ear to what they are trying to say. Listen to them calmly and come up with the steady solutions that your children expect from you during this time of distress. Provide your kids with the extra nurturing, care and comfort that they need during this time of exams when there are hundreds of reasons to feel low.

Share their Emotions

Children often find it difficult to put their emotions and thoughts into words. They cannot express how they are feeling. It is the responsibility of the parents to understand their kids fully. Parents should be well aware of the emotions that their kids are going through. Discuss with your kids how they are feeling and make them feel comfortable so that they can feel normal. Empathize with your kids by listening to them calmly.

Help your Kids to Know What They Actually Want

Help your kids to have realistic expectations so that if they fail sometimes they should not be frustrated of the failures. Teach your kids that failure is a part of life and that failures are the stepping stones that lead to the path of success. Without failure the excitement of winning can never be enjoyed. Teach your kids to bounce back with valour even after their letdown. However, it is most important to ensure that kids finish their revision beforehand.

Help Kids in Problem Solving

Teach your kids what to do if they feel sick in the examination hall. Tell them to inform the teacher of their feeling unwell, or take slow breathe and then try to recompose themselves and concentrate on the exam paper again. Tell them that this feeling is normal and there is nothing to worry so much.
Teach them Skills to Solve the Paper in a Systematic Way
Teach your kids the systematic way of solving the exam paper. The easy ones should be answered first before trying out the difficult questions. This technique should be taught to kids beforehand so that they do not get scared seeing the tough questions.
So prepare your kids well before the exams so that your kids feel less stressed during the exams and can perform well in their exams.

I absolutely agree with you Mariam, most of the kids face exam stress due to disability to do revision.
