Winne the Pooh Who was the writer of Winne the Pooh stories? Alan Alexandra Milne had written several books, for children as well as adults, which met with mediocre success. Over the years he realized he was better at writing children's books. Milne had a son called Christopher, who was the inspiration behind the character 'Christopher Robin'. Christopher had a 'friend' at the zoo, a real bear, who's name was Winne, which is from where Milne got the idea of writing a book about a lovable bear. Though Milne wrote many books, he
is best remembered for creating Winne the Pooh.
Where did Pooh live? Pooh lives in the hundred acre wood, deep in the Enchanted Forest, in a little house with a door. The name on the door reads 'Sanders', but that is not Pooh's last name. Mr. Sanders was the previous bear who lived in the house before Pooh moved in. Pooh loves to eat, and the first
thing he says when he gets out of bed every morning is "What's for breakfast?"
And everytime Pooh gets a 'sinking feeling' it means he is hungry - again.
His favourite food? Hunny, of course! In fact, Pooh even has a boat, which
he made from an empty honey pot.
Who are Pooh's friends? Eeyore, the donkey, Kanga and Roo, mommy and baby kangaroos, Tigger, the tiger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl and of course, the little blonde boy, Christopher Robin. All of Pooh's friends, except for Kanga, are male. Tigger has a long, springy tail and he keeps bouncing around on it! While all of Pooh's friends are neat and clean, Piglet is the exception. He's only had a bath once in his life, and loves being dirty! Winnie, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Tigger
and Piglet were all inspired by Christopher's stuffed animals. These animals
are now living in the New York Public Library.
How popular is Pooh? While Mickey Mouse is the most popular
Disney cartoon character, the Bear of Very Little Brain, Pooh, comes a
close second! Pooh stories have been translated into almost every language
and are read around the world by millions and millions of people, both
young and old. Silly, lovable and trustworthy Pooh! Isn't it time you read
a Pooh book?
