Tips for Dads to Travel with a Baby

Are you a dad and planning to travel with your little one? Here are some tips for dads to make the travel with a baby safer and memorable one.
Abraham is undecided about going for the outing in the next weekend. He wants to know about the precautions to be taken during the flight as he has got a baby who is only 7 months old. He wants to get prepared completely so that their travelling is enjoyable for the baby too.

Important Considerations while Travelling with the Baby

More alertness and preparedness is expected out of a dad who is flying with an infant having age between 3 to 12 months. At the same time this experience can be rewarding and fun filled too if required preparations are done. By the time a baby is 3 months old, it is ready for travelling. Babies of 3 to 6 months age are not mobile and they have their sleep and feeds at regular interval so it becomes easier for the parents to manage them while travelling. The important concerns while travelling with a baby are to keep the baby busy and to take care of its health. Dads of 3 to 12 months old babies would find the following tips very helpful when they need to travel with their babies.

Taking Care of Health

When parents are travelling along with their babies, they must carry the prescription file of the babies along with them. Enough time has to be spent to prepare the checklist of medicines to be carried during the journey. A first-aid kit is a must-carry item when infants are travelling along. Prescription drugs are also to be kept in the first-aid kit even if babies may need these drugs occasionally.
Dads have to ensure that emergency sheet having the information about child’s health is filled up or saved on the mobile. The names and contact information of the healthcare provider of the baby has to be saved. Carrying hats is a must so that babies get protected from sunrays and also to remain warm when weather is cool. When parents have plans to spend quite a considerable time outdoors e.g. at the beach or walking, babies should be properly dressed. Sunscreen lotion that offers protection from UV and UVB and has SPF 15 has to be applied on face and hands of babies 3 to 6 months old. For babies with an age of 6 to 13 months sunscreen can be applied on all the exposed parts of the body. Find out from your baby’s paediatrician if it would be safe to apply sunscreen lotion to your baby. Make sure that you use the sunscreen lotion which is prescribed by your baby’s paediatrician only.

Taking Care of Safety

It is a must to take care of baby’s safety. Babies should always sit in back seat. Infants should not sit in the front sit. Dads must ensure that the car seat for the babies is properly installed and seat belts of the car are threaded correctly before they start off with the journey. To protect the babies from scorching sunlight, removable screens can be used. When booking a seat for the baby in the aeroplane, appropriate car seat must be bought so that the baby can comfortably sit there.

Keeping the Baby Busy

A goody bag that has all favourite toys of the baby must be carried to keep the baby busy while travelling. Rattles, picture books and musical toys are some of the items that will keep the baby busy during the journey.

Foods

It is important to pack enough supply of food for the babies. Large bibs must be carried along so that entire outfit of the baby gets covered and food particles can be wiped off easily. Enough numbers of diapers must be carried to keep the baby dry during the journey. Extra set of clothes must be there for the baby in the hand bag. Extra plastic carry bags should be kept to store the dirty diapers or other messy things during the journey which could be disposed off later on.
The above tips would definitely help the dads of 3 to 12 months old babies to plan their journey in a better way and have a memorable travelling experience with the baby.
