THE INVITATION:

Use pink handmade papers for printing or handwriting the invitations. Cut the paper into pink hearts or follow the shape of the cake you will be having at the party. You can also stick dark pink or white lace around the edges.

DECORATIONS:

As the theme is pink, get rolls of pink paper and streamers to decorate the halls. You can use pink dupattas and frills for the windows and you can also have them hanging from the ceilings. You can paint a beautiful backdrop with beautiful shades of pink, with little girls and pink fairies and pink animals like bunnies, cats, dogs as well as pink elephants. Borrow as many pink cuddly toys as you can manage from all your friends and family, and place them in strategic corners of the room.

You can also have a pink 'khoy ' bag hanging from the ceiling, which the children can pull and burst when the cake is cut. Fill it with small pink objects as well as pink tinsel and thermocol balls, which will fall all over the birthday girl, creating a pretty sight.

ENTERTAINMENT:

PASSING THE PINK PARCEL/ PILLOW OR BALL - whatever you use to play this age old favourite, just make sure that it is pink. Have some interesting punishments and at the end of it give out a pink cuddly toy as the prize. If the toys aren't borrowed, you can ask the winning child to pick out his/her favourite one from the decorations.

PIN THE TAIL ON THE DONKEY- use pink card paper and draw a dark pink donkey without a tail. As a variation you can use a pink monkey or even a cat or elephant or even Pink Panther, the cartoon character. Take a thick pink cord and attach a pin at one end. Make all the children stand in a line and blindfold each one as they get their turn to pin the tail on. The child who comes closest to where the tail should be is declared the winner.
The prize can be a soft toy of whatever animal, that you have drawn on the card paper to give the child something to remember for what he or she has one the prize.

A MR./MISS PINK CONTEST- as the invitation card has already specified the theme; you can safely assume that all the guests will turn out in their best pink clothes. So why not have a contest and give out the prize to the most confident, best dressed child. Depending on their age group let them come forward and introduce themselves and share their hobbies with the rest of the group. Then choose three finalists and ask them some simple questions in the final round. E.g. what is your favourite colour?
Who is your best friend and why?
And at the end choose a winner, who will be made to wear a pink tinsel or sequined crown with a pink banner announcing the title that they have just won.

RETURN GIFTS OPTIONS:

1. Small pink soft toys  - in the shapes of elephants, rabbits, mice or whatever is available.

2. A Pink pencil box with two pink pencils, a pink ballpoint pen, a pink eraser and a pink plastic sharpener.

3. A set of felt pens wrapped in bright pink foil along with a colouring book.

4. A personalized pink hand towel for each of the guests, with their names embroidered on it.

THE CAKE:
The cake is always the main attraction at a birthday party. So make sure that yours should look good as well as taste good. And of course, there should be enough to go around. Less is never more in this case, as almost everyone would go for seconds.

Before you place the order, do ask for a sample. You can choose from a variety of shapes. But make sure that it is pink to go with the theme. You could have a strawberry cake or even a chocolate cake that is covered in pink icing.

As far as the shape is concerned, you can take a beautiful pink heart decorated with red roses. Or even a pink fairy or a pink animal.  You can even have a Pink Panther. Or ask the pastry shop to show you their album and ask for suggestions on which of their cakes can be converted into a pink coloured one.

THE BIRTHDAY DRESS:

Quite obviously this should be pink in colour. But there are many things that you could do here. Dress her up like a pretty pink fairy holding a silver wand with a bright pink star at the top. Her dress could be made out of pink lace. You could put a little pink tinsel in her hair.

Or if you would like something a little more unusual, you could get a pink bunny rabbit suit tailored just for the occasion.

Or if your child is above the age of 8, then let her wear something a little more mature like a pink pantsuit or a tank top with pink jeans. Or satin trousers with a white t-shirt with some work done in pink. Or even a pretty pink salwar kurta for an even older child.

AGE GROUP:

The age group can range from 1 year olds to 10 year olds. Above this age, you would need a more mature theme. But even in this range, the shape of the cake, the return gifts and the birthday dress would vary. Therefore we have many options for you.

PARTY FOOD:

And now for the yummiest section. Well, by now you have already chosen the cake. So lets think of all the pink food we can have to go along with it. You must always have sandwiches and wafers, which are most obviously not pink. But besides this, you can add a few pink touches to the menu. Make sure that at least the paper plates and napkins are pink.

1. Serve raspberry sodas and strawberry milkshakes with pretty pink umbrellas for stirrers.
2. Pink marshmallows would look good on the side.
3. Pink idlis - if you blend beetroot with the idli batter, the idlis will take on a pinkish tinge. This you can serve with your regular green coconut chutney as well as sambhar.
4.Pink chenna - better known as baby rasgollas, which are available in a variety of colours. Pick out only the pink ones.
5. For the sandwiches, you can have a wide variety of fillings - strawberry jam, or a pink chutney where you replace the green chilies with red ones and then go ahead and make the chutney as you always do. Or better still; if the children are very young and cannot eat chilies then make a tomato-beetroot chutney.
6. Make a pink dip out of beetroot, garlic and hung curd and serve it with wafers or carrot/cucumber sticks. You can even serve this with kebabs.
