Cost Effective Decorating

Do you want to make your home look like a dream, on an incredibly low budget? Yes, it's possible! Read on.

You don't have to use the most expensive wood for furniture, in order to ensure that your home looks beautiful. When most of us buy furniture, we opt for the most durable wood, that will last for generations. However, why do we require wood to last for so long? Wouldn't it make more sense to pay less for something, let it last maybe 30 years, and then change it and buy something else? Styles change, fashions change, and tastes change. What we so love today, could rankle us tomorrow. Similarly, we may change homes in the future, move to a smaller or larger place, and our furniture may not be suitable to our new homes. So what do we do? We either sell off the old place along with the furniture, we dispose off the furniture separately, or we cart all of it along with us, and try our best to place it around our new home so it looks good.
Here are some incredibly cost-saving ideas, so your home looks good, on the lowest possible budget ever!

Go Cane

Go Cane
So who says you must have wooden, upholstered sofas in your living or family room? Living rooms can look just as comfy with cost-effective and aesthetic cane furniture. You could, alternatively, have a mix of cane and upholstered furniture in your living room, as long as you keep it simple and comfortable. Cane furniture gives your home a very warm, casual and summery feel, and keeping it in a room crowded with heavy, formal furniture would be a mismatch.

Wrought Iron

Decorating your bedroom? If you want to cut costs, go in for a wrought iron bed instead of a wooden one. Bear in mind though that wrought iron beds don't come with storage. So, if storage space is limited, you may want to rethink this and opt for a regular wooden bed with storage. Invest in around 2 sets of bed sheets and covers that match with the room, and keep alternating these. They should last you for years. Opt for a fresh colour scheme to go with your wrought iron bed.

Decorative items

Instead of opting for expensive cut glass to decorate your home, go for things that have more colour and character. True, cut glass does look beautiful, but more down-to-earth decorative items can truly enhance your home and add charm.

Curtains

Curtains
Don't opt for heavy drapes, especially if you live in a small home. Sheer drapes look much neater and don't crowd up the room so unless you want to block out the light completely, opt for a sheer fabric. Hanging from a rod above the windows, these make great curtains. They also make a room look more roomy and airy. If you avoid pleats in your curtains, you will use less fabric, and so cut costs. Also, ready-to-hang curtains are available in a number of home stores and malls through the country. Non-fussy, neat, sleek and just lovely, these are ideal for smaller rooms.
