Ten Ideas to Decorate your Child

Looking for ways to make your child's bedroom fun and more interesting? Then, you will definitely find these ten simple and unique ideas to decorate a kid's room useful.

Instead of going with simple generic interior designs for your child's room, why not personalise and design it to encourage his creativity, productivity and with regards to his favourite interests. Decorate your child's bedroom keeping in mind his age, likes and dislikes.

Read on for ten simple yet unique ideas to design and decorate your child's room:-

Bright Coloured Walls

Not only do bright and bold colours make a room look attractive, but it also serves to energise and encourage kids. However, try not to paint all the walls in your child's bedroom with the same colour. Use soothing colours on three of the walls and let the fourth wall pop out by painting it with bold and bright colours that reflects your child's enthusiasm and lively nature. Red, blue and yellow are good colours for toddler's bedroom. Pink, purple, and light green are suitable for older kids.

Kids Wallpapers or specially designed walls

There are a host of wallpaper designs now available to meet every child's interests. For children who are avid movie fans, there are special wallpaper designs with superheroes like Spiderman, Disney characters, and many other cartoon themes. Animal wallpapers with cats, elephants, etc. are also available. If your child is intrigued by the solar system, you can even paste glow in the dark stars and planets on a wall. Take your child along with you when selecting a wallpaper or wall design to help him feel part of the design process for his room. If his favourite themed wallpapers are not available, you can even hire a painter to paint his favourite interests onto a wall.

Painted Furniture

Colourful painted furniture is ideal for a child's bedroom. Colourful chairs, tables, drawers, beds, etc will bring cheerfulness and liveliness to the room. Simply paint the dull furniture in your child's room with fun vibrant colours and redecorate his entire room without spending too much. You can even paint desks or wardrobes in patterns such as stripes or polka dots, etc.

Make space to Display your Child's Artwork

Make room for your child's artwork on the wall. Encourage your child to draw and paint and put up his masterpieces on the wall to further motivate him. Drawing helps a child to express himself and it is also a great pass-time for kids. You can put up a pin board to showcase his latest masterpieces and achievements as well. You can also put up a small black or white board on the wall and provide your child with colourful chalks or pens to put up new designs every day.

Add themed or personalised Rugs

Many shops sell unique and nice rugs for kids. Keeping rugs on the floor ensures that the floor is cushioned, in case your child falls. Use only soft rugs for children's rooms and ensure that the rugs are large enough to cover the accident-prone areas of the room. There are nice and bright coloured children's rugs available, in the shape of their favourite cartoon characters or super heroes. You can also choose rugs with different patterns or designs to add a pop of interesting colour to an otherwise sober room.

Good lighting

A child's bedroom needs to have appropriate lighting to prevent eye strain and the risk of getting glasses. Task lighting is required for reading and homework. Soothing and relaxing lights are required for sleeping and to give the room a calm and peaceful atmosphere. Including a kid's table lamp or desk lamp is also a good idea, in case your child still tends to get afraid at some point of the night.

Providing Personal space

If you have two kids sharing the same room, it is advisable to give both of them their own personal space even in that shared room. While sharing a common room helps siblings to bond with each other, giving them at least a bit of individual space can help tune their individual personalities. The opportunities to personalise a shared space are many! You could provide them with separate cupboards or shelves to keep their belongings organized, or probably create two different study spaces on either side of the same desk, or two different personalised beds or bed sheets or simply give each a wall to personalise with their personal effects.

Sufficient Storage

Children of all ages, invariable, have a lot of stuff to store – craft items, sketches, toys, books, clothes, shoes, sporting items, and so on. To accommodate everything, parents need to provide sufficient storage space. You can use the space under the bed as storage, or use a trunk as a classy sitting table in the room. You can put up shelves around the empty walls in a decorative way to use up the empty space while also providing an element of design into the room.

Multi-Purpose zones

Many kids especially the older ones want to have their own space and spend time alone. Children sleep, study, read, listen to music and even play in their bedroom. Hence, ensure that the room is multi-functional and children can be comfortable doing whatever they want.

Involve your Child

Before you go about decorating your child's bedroom, speak to him and take his inputs. Let him communicate what he likes and dislikes. Choosing the interiors of his room will help your child mould his personality as well. Give him the freedom to make suggestions and take his choices into consideration as far as possible.

Children's bedrooms basically need to be cozy and comfortable. Decorating a child's bedroom can be a really fun and interesting activity if done correctly and with the right mindset. Nowadays, there are plenty of options to choose from. Matching furniture along with the right design and theme can make the room really attractive and turn it into a haven for a young child to grow up in!

Little girls love pink colour and light shades. Barbie dolls not to be missed out. Boys love cars, trucks, anything related to mechanical stuff. Besides cartoon characters would be more interesting to make their room inspiring. Ambiance plays a vital part in enhancing our mental ability. A great article!

Decorating kids room needs proper planning as it has to be child proof. I liked all the ideas given here. Painting the room in bright colours brightens up the room and gives a lively feel. Sticking glow-on stickers on the walls makes kids very happy especially at night.
