How to Keep Your Kids Away from Dengue Mosquitoes
To protect kids from dengue, it is necessary to take right preventive measures. Let us take a look at few steps parents can take to keep kids away from dengue mosquitoes.

The tantrum of Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes go high surprisingly at the day time. They are known to cause ‘break bone fever’, commonly called dengue, which may cause death of the victim. There is a series of three vaccine treatment out of six vaccines that are still in the experimental stages, which still do not promise to prevent the disease completely. Therefore, as there is no proper vaccine available for the disease, parents have to do their bit to keep their kids away from dengue mosquitoes.

Know the Timings

Dengue mosquitoes are most active during the sunrise until sunset, and are more rampant between 11 am to 4 pm. Avoid sending your kids out to play during this time. But there is a greater chance that your kids would be at school at these hours, so you must team up with school authorities to make sure that they have installed safeguard measures against mosquito bites.

Say Bye to Stagnant Water

Mosquitoes usually lay eggs and multiply in still water, spreading more filth and thus disease. Wet and humid are the best conditions for them to breed and swarm – that is why they love monsoons. You must cover or discard all such stagnant water.
Throw away wet garbage, use artificial flowers for your vase, dry and cover your swimming pool and ornamental fountains for a month or two, turn every receptacle collecting water upside down, and also drain, dry and store the cooler tank of any water. If you eliminate the trigger of dengue vector from your house and your surroundings, then you are protecting your kids by a huge extent from being bitten and infected by the deadly dengue virus.

Mosquito Proof your House

Install several measures to keep mosquitoes away from your territory. There are many ways to keep your house mosquito-free. Spray mosquito liquid repellents around your house that are not toxic. If your kids are not allergic to fumes of mosquito smart cards, you can also burn smoke free mosquito-repellent cards and coils. You will also get electronic pest-repellers and certain LED home lights in the market are effective in keep mosquitoes at bay. Screen your house with mosquito mesh on all doors and windows, and keep the rooms air-conditioned, which is also an effective repellent.

Protect Your Kids’ Bodies

It is wise to dress your kids in full sleeved shirts or tops and full pants for outdoors. Wearing clothes that covers the body will keep your kids away from mosquito bites. Take care to cover them from head to toe when you take them outside – but the clothes should be light, breathable and comfortable.
If you are the parent of a toddler, then you must attach a mosquito net around their cradle or carrier. Also keep all the mosquito-repellent sprays and creams handy. You can also give your kids mosquito bands and badges to wear that are effective in repelling mosquitoes.

Natural Remedies You Can Try

There are many natural ways to keep mosquitoes at bay. Spray some eucalyptus oil or citronella oil around your house. You can burn lavender aromatic candles or allow tea-tree oil to vapourize. Plant some tulsi plants near windows and doors. You can serve your kids some barley grass, neem leaves, papaya leaves, fenugreek leaves, basil leaves, coriander leaves and orange juice occasionally to strengthen your kids’ immune system to fight against dengue mosquitoes.
It is very important to follow the above-mentioned tips to keep your kids safe. You should also watch out for any signs and symptoms in your kids, because if dengue goes undetected, it can be fatal to your kids. Be careful and if you find any symptoms, rush to your nearest doctor.
