hi
I am a mother of a 16 months old baby boy.
he used to be very busy all day .he sleeps only for 1and half hr in the afternoon, and makes me run after him.
I need to know how to make him busy with his toys and to make him watch TV for longer time ,as I need time to prepare for a very imp exam, mccee ,pg programme in medicine.
as I donot have any helping hand here in USA and cannot put him with babysitter.
he is very cranky and naughty,at times.
He can speak hardly 10 words now,do you think I can put him with babysitter at this age?
I am really very helpless,I need time for my exam preparation .
what I should do?
can any one suggest me any way ?
I will be remain greatful to u .
thank you
a needy mom

Sujata replied. Hi,
I can think of these possibilities, see what helps. I have a 14 month active baby.
1. Take your husband's help, let him take care of the baby for few hours on weekends and weekday nights.
2.Study when baby sleeps during day and night.
3.Study according to a timetable, dividing your everyday work and try to achieve that.
4. Take help from a friend who is also a mother. leave ur baby with her. You can repay her effort in future.
5.Cut time from household chores.
Hope it helps,
Best,
Sujata
Hetal replied. i have a kid almost of your baby age,,just that she is younger some 2months...but yes its hard to make them busy....
her sleeping time is good enough,..
instead of making him watch tv, get some good developmental toys,,check amazon dot com for age wise recommendations and parent reviews and get some good toys for him.
the other is if you are still inclined to make him watch tv, nick JR(dora, deigo, wonderpets, lazytown, backyardigans) and baby first tv are the most well known and best fit for baby..
also, you can try, baby einstein series, they are lovely and developmental...but i would strongly recommend you to sit with him and teach him whats going on in TV...
and if that doesnt fit in your schedule,,best is put him to a good day care/licensed one,,where most of the kids are of his age,,and he njoys it there,,at this age, kids need more people around him instead of media exposure..in US,its difficult for stay at home mom to keep baby busy inside the house because of weather conditions and lack of social life..gather the families around you with kids and have get together once a while,,,make a circle or playmate dates with them,,and once a while baby sit eachother kids,,and this will help you to get some rest as well,,and spend some time for yourself..
other is you can try visiting some park and let him play there,,and you can sit reading your books !! 16month old is a good player with other kids, but at first couple visits, you will have to teach him to share and play in turns/together !
babysitting is a good idea too but he will not get that exposure that he needs,,so you be the best judge,,the things will be same, at home, your kid will be alone,,no matter how good babysitter you get...he needs alot of outer exposure at this point of time,,
also in some citiies, montessori schools accept admissions from 15months onwards,,,its some 3-4hour schools and just right for kids,,,this way you get that much time for yourself too,,and your kid also goes out and plays well, learns at a good place and its not the whole day as well,so you are not worried how he will taken care of,,,all fits in well..
so go by whatever suits your budget and needs...this is all i am doing to keep my kid busy alongwith my schedule..!!!!!!!!
hope all this helps,,
