Today I had an appointment with doctor. My baby is now 3.5 cm long. It was exciting to see its tiny hands and legs. Once again I took a copy of US for my collection.

According to doctor everything is normal and I am doing fine. So, I am happy now.

She also mentioned about hCG, Aminocentesis and alpha feto-protein test. She asked whether we want to do it or not. I am not sure now, but do doctors in India carry this test ? What about other friends on this board ? Kavitha what happenned in your appointment with doctor ?

Aarti is right.Amniocentesis is mainly done when mother is above 35.Its also done when it is known that mother or both the parents are carriers of some genetic or inherited disorders and also when couple has already had a child with down syndrome.It may be painful.My book says - in very few cases, women experience infection or other complications that may lead to miscarriage, so should be used only when benefits outweigh risks.
Best thing is to discuss with doctor about these tests whether they are required for u - ask doc to explain it to u.Am not able to find out about other 2 tests.
By the way, my first ultra scan was on 21st.I got the pic of my baby.It was really exciting to see small baby and its heart beat. Aarti replied. Hi DK,

I know about amniocentesis. This should be done only if mother's age is above 35. But as per my guess its your first baby. and just don't take this test. Its painfull also. and there are some complications too. They took the fluid which is amniotic fluid with a needle from your abdomen. And just ask your doctor that are these tests are really for you or not. BUt I think you should refuse.
