Sleeping:How to change sleeping habits of baby?

Hi,

My baby is 2 and a half months old. My problem is that he rarely sleeps before 2 AM at night. In day time also, he sleeps in parts. Can anybody tell me how to change sleeping habits of my son?

Hi
It can be quiet frustrating when u want to sleep and u have to be awake as baby is... I can usnderstand as my son used to sleep for very short periods of time, even after his bath. The slightest noise woke him and then he was all beans...What worked for me was to lie next to him even after he fell alseep nursing. He eventually got into the habit of sleeping for longer periods of time. Also try to keep pillows close to him when u get up so that he still gets the snug feeling. I agree with Minika's suggestion of keeping him in a room with minimum noise and dim lights or curtains drawn. It'll pass as he grows. My son is now 8.5 months and he sleeps well.
All the best !!!
Mommy

Hi ,

Just be patient !!! My son was the same till he was
around 3 months. But you could try a few things

1) If you feel he sleeps better after a bath, try giving him a bath in the evening or night , weather permitting

2) I tried giving the baby a massage in the evening when he tends to become cranky. He seemed to sleep better at night.

3) Also after 7 or 8 PM , keep your baby in a room with dim lights and not too much noise or activity . Sing softly or talk to him gently. It may lull him to sleep.

4) I tried to keep my son awake in the afternoon by playing with him but before 3 months , they are not too responsive so it may not always work.

Last but not least, if everything fails, try your best to follow your babie's sleeping schedule - I mean sleep when your baby sleeps if possible. this may mean a dirty house and no time to prepare gourmet meals !!!! So stock up nutritious snacks and fruits and keep socializing to a minimum

Best of luck !!!!

Minka

Hi Minka & mommy,

thank you very much for your suggestions. We will try to follow the same. But the problem is that my son sleeps when we play music and in half sleep position, he wakes up if we switch off the light...anyway, will try your suggestions...thanks once again.

Sleep Problem due to itchy skin
My baby girl is unable to sleep properly due to skin rashes. I have resumed oil massages to help calm her down and facilitate better sleep, using CITTA Baby Massage Oil. Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. Could you please provide me with more ideas that can promote better sleep for her?... - Sanchari Tarafdar [View Message]

RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
