Dear All,

I am researching for my MA thesis into Language and Education in India (focusing on Mumbai but also elsewhere). I would be very interested to hear from any parents with kids enrolled in school or in the process of choosing a school, ideally in Mumbai but also elsewhere in India. My particular question is: was medium of instruction (e.g. English, Hindi, Marathi etc.) a factor in your decision? Was it even a question you asked yourselves when choosing between schools? And it it was, what were your thoughts/decisions?

I would be very grateful for any information you can share and experiences you can share on this.

Thank you for your feedback. As per my original message I am not researching for my own kids, but doing more general academic research on language and education in Mumbai. Your replies have all been most helpful.

Jon Prem replied. Hi Jon, put your kid in english medium as he or she will surely request to leave it study abroad or get a job in some other country. So english will always stay as a additional subject. manav replied. hello john,

in proper mumbai more than half percentage people prefer english launguage school for them kid, because english is most common launguage and defiantely it will elp you. anjinkya replied. hello jon,

i suggest you to go through english medium school option, becasue in this competative word english launguage is very necessaryy, and it should be usen by you too. prakash replied. hello jon,
i m mother of 5 years old daughter, and for her i gave preferene to english medicum school, becasei english is very common language in all counrties, and its easy to write aw well as easy to undeerstand. Having a common language which is used worlwide will always stay as a plus point. Lisa replied. 90% of the people prefer english medium schools and this 90% also includes people who can barely afford education. Acc to what i know the only ones who go for any other medium are the ones who don't have any other choice. Laxmi replied. I think most of the people don't even think about the language school they want their kids to go as it is english by default. Even the people who can not afford it try their best to get their kids in english medium schools. Ritu replied. I think the medium is not an option anymore and most of the people prefer english as it is very important to know english as all the jobs and higher degree courses have a requirement of english in their course. khushi replied. hi jon,
you need to choose your medium, its depend on your interest, which you feel good go with it, because you only face it, also its depend on finance too. Amol replied. Hello Jon,
You just take the decision according to the situation so that you can be satisfied also but what ever anybody says you are the person who is getting face it you need to take the decision on your own only.

It depends on your interest you need to choose the medium on which you feel comfortable because you are one who is going to bear it. And you need to check the financial crisis also.
